Job Duties and Skills:
Responsible for executing new product development of the apparel product category, throughout the product development cycle. This includes on-time delivery, pricing of BOM, regulatory issues, compliance to brand, ISO, ANSI, NFPA and import trade agreements, regulations and other standards. Manage the product development for all wearable apparel gear. Manage the product development of such items to a seasonal corporate calendar. Manage, train and present the development process of such products to all development staff team members. Prepare technical packages that includes the illustrations, instructions and list of materials needed to manufacture the product. Adhere to ISO compliancy by managing records and following standard operating procedures. Create or modify standard operating procedures in order for Product Development to function effectively and efficiently. Confer with sourcing & production planning on product allocation to vendors. Research various certification guidelines to ensure product meets requirements.
Manage product costings and communicate internally to category business leaders, inventory management and merchandisers. Confer with custom broker specialist to tariff engineer products to meet the most optimum harmonized tariff category. Manage the material and product development so that the end product meets all quality requirements by testing it. Problem solving where there are any failures, presentingcorrective action in a timely and cost effective manner. Continuously researching product innovations, costs, materials and manufacturing methods. Participate in new product planning to identify the need for new products. Investigate consumer complaints or product returns to offer the corrective actions. Participate incatalog and print material drafts to ensure accuracy of information. Have direct relationship with material vendors to source materials. Create and maintain bid specifications for each product.
Work with embellishments, interlining and hardware suppliers to ensure data sheets for each specific style are reviewed and approved to be added to technical specification packages. Responsible for ensuring that key aspects of products are clearly communicated, timelines are met and relevant gross margin, quality and price targets are achieved. Coordinates with Design, Technical Design and Merchandising teams to develop such products that offer superior function, construction value and aesthetics. Coordinates the efficient and timely flow of products from concept through commercialization including prototypes, wear test samples, sales samples, and photo samples. Ensures the product supports the companys overall strategy, goals, and mission statement. Communicates with overseas office and vendors on objectives, expectations and processes to ensure product development and sourcing objectives are achieved. Responsible for managing the setup and implementation of Quality Assurance protocols for product. Works closely with Merchandisers, Research and Development, and Sourcing to develop products that are reproducible, meet direct cost targets and wholesale margin requirements, and to ensure compliance to brand, regulatory, and other standards. Deliver product line plans with nominated materials and trims, descriptions and prioritized features and benefits.
Accountable for the detailed communication of specifications related to each item in order to achieve the most accurate and highest possible quality prototype. Assure that fabric and trims are maximized and cross utilized to achieve inventory and price. Monitors and sources product, fabric, and trim prices. Negotiates garment, fabric, and trim prices and minimums. Consults with Merchandiser for final product price approvals. Accountable for the timely adherence of calendar dates as defined by the corporate calendar.
Occasional travel to Hong Kong to review product manufacturing factory.
Minimum Requirements: 4 years of Management-Level experience in apparel product
Special Requirements: Understanding of fabric and garment construction. Product costing, technical packages and Bill of Materials (BOM) knowledge required.
Skills: Able to recognize and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment and diplomacy. Ability to use good judgment and reasoning while designing/creating designs in the brand aesthetic. Ability to make sound decisions. Superior leadership and supervisory skills. Good organizational skills. Good follow through skills. Computer literate in a Windows Environment; i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook. Detail oriented. Ability to switch gears frequently. Knowledge of manufacturing procedures. Strong project management skills. Ability to be a team player. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to use tact and diplomacy.
