RACC (Former Employee) –  Newark, DESeptember 27, 2017
Have you ever wondered why AAA is always hiring for Roadside Assistance? Like, ALWAYS HIRING? that's because what they don't tell you is that the job boring and mentally scarring and you will be regularly verbally abused by the general public and there is nothing you can do about it. Just like retail and with poor back support. You start off as a temp, don't let them lie to you with "Occasional position". There is nothing occasional about your job, its the same hours as part-time, they just don't have to give you benefits if they say that. "Occasional"s get one (1) 20 min break in a 6 hour day. Full-time gets two (2) 15min and a half hour lunch that involves you crying in your backseat praying for a swift death. There are two types of managers, the kind that could give less of a rats butt about the job or you and the kind that breath AAA and could give less of a rats butt about you. There is no in-between. You are almost penalized just for going to the bathroom or trying to pause the phone to finish up a call. Departments don't have any respect for one another, there is favoritism among managers, but you can wear jeans in roadside (woot.) Have an HR issue? Good luck finding them in the office, they're never there and wait until the last minute or beyond to answer emails. If someone for AAA tells you they're not submitting applications like a junkie looking for a fix its because they've been there so long they'll lose their pension if they leave now. AAA has yet to realize that those temp cards they send people in the mail are a bad idea because it only says "temp" in small letters  more... so then people blow up at you when you tell them that the card's fake and that'll be $120 with the service fee. Systems regularly go down, so much for advanced tech, huh, and they'll sing that "Members First" chant all night long while these people treat you like literal fecal matter but God forbid you get a sane member on the phone who needs something a little out of the norm then its all back to "policy states...". Oh and they kill me with the overtime system, they literally have to beg people to stay. They do raffles for prizes and $10 gift cards for the hours you remain compliant. Newsflash - NOT HELPING. Did I mention everything is scripted? Don't let them lie to your face and say it's not. The benefits, if you can call them that, worthless if you actually need to go to the doctor more than 2x's a year. You'll just end up getting even less in a check for something you cant even use. Most of my coworkers don't even have insurance through the company. The lucky ones have a significant other who they can be on their plan. Biggest pet peeve has to be the fact that we're so busy but the same witches are never at their desk and their managers are completely ok with it. Please, stop sending your loved ones to the mental breakdown factory.  less

It was refreshing to leave the mall retail world and join AAA- Mid Atlantic.
I was given adequate training time.
It is a laid back environment as long as everything's running smoothly.
High vacation times make the phones very busy, but nothing unmanageable.
Pros

TRAVEL AGENT (Former Employee) –  Toledo, OHSeptember 18, 2017
I enjoyed working for AAA, the only reason I left was because I relocated to another city and there wasn't any positions available for me at another club. They really invest in training and growth in the company.

Prejudice against Minorities
Confidential Investigator (Current Employee) –  Hamilton, NJSeptember 6, 2017
The ratio of minorities in entry level positions to those in management/executive level positions is a travesty. If you are white, then you're alright. If you're black then you stay back.

Advice to Mgmt:
Clean house, especially in the HR department, and instill affirmative action standards.
Pros
Free food on holidays and excessively busy days plus unlimited overtime if that's your gig.
Cons
Lack of Advancement, Two-faced Management, backstabbing, under appreciated staff

Battery Truck/Light Service Driver (Former Employee) –  West Hartford, CT 06110August 23, 2017
I was wrongly terminated. Can't trust supervisors to back you up. There was a lot of "favoritism". The management seemed like they need retraining. Lot's of competitiveness.

Not a decent place to work
General Service Technician (Current Employee) –  Glen Burnie, MDAugust 7, 2017
A typical day at work is standing around waiting for work, or cleaning the same spot multiple times. this is a dead end job, but when you do move up, you tend to lose money because the managers feed work to the higher technicians. management is a waste of time. Nothing about this job is enjoyable, glad I left when I could.

Very stessful
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHAugust 7, 2017
Very stressful job, Unrealistic continuous changes . You are managing multiple boards on your monitor while taking back to back phone calls from VERY rude tow companies, if the tow company messes up the dispatcher is automatically blamed no if ,ands ,or buts. Definitely a high turn over everyone there is on a 90 day probation.Alot of bitter old people there that just help eachother out even though it is suppose to be a teamwork environment the co- workers definitely make it hard especially when they will rat you out on anything you do wrong. Supervisors are nit-pickers. There boss is on there back they are on YOUR back.also have weekly meetings where they basically harass you on what you did wrong on the unrealistic work. Pay was good but definitely not worth the headache everyday.
Pros
Free memberships
Cons
Stressful nit-pickers unrealistic goals

Membership sales (Current Employee) –  Newark, DEAugust 3, 2017
They tell you your incentive each month will be 500-1500 but in reality you get $0 because you missed something in your sales or the way you talked to the member. its very unfair the way they tell you that youwill always get your bonus but you actually don't get it.

Overall Great Company
Membership Specialist (Current Employee) –  Glen Burnie, MDJuly 26, 2017
Overall, AAA is a great place to work. My current location is ran by great management (Wheaton, MD). There is a great benefits package and ample amount of training.
Every AAA Retail location is different so I always recommend getting a feel for the store and management team. It's important to find a store that has a good fit.
