AAA New York company can be great or your worst nightmare...
Cashiering Manager (Former Employee), New York, NY –
Pros: co-workers often very congenial, job security.
Cons: low wages, dealing with anyone who has a aaa membership.
I must note that I worked for AAA New York, NOT Mid-Atlantic...somehow my resume translated information wrong, so I do not speak for Mid-Atlantic;all AAA companies vary slightly depending on region. My experience was fairly poor because I took the job out of desperation in moving to NYC...I was a travel counselor/cashier at two separate branches,and – more...  I hated dealing with the clientele, often very demanding on your time. Upper Management was not helpful at my branch office, but Assistant managers and co-workers were like family and if you did not rock the boat or were tardy often, you had job security. Wages are low for the most part. My husband continues to work for AAA New York in an entirely different capacity in the towing area, and is treated very well with lots of personal freedom. If you like people, like travel, and have a spouse that makes more than 60,000 a year, you might like working here. – less

Busy call center, never the same day twice!
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee), Hamilton, NJ –
Pros: free lunches on busy call days!
Cons: none that i can think of.
I reported to the Managing Director of the Road Service Call Center. Learned how to report on daily, weekly and monthly statistics. Sat in on meetings to take minutes and distribute to staff. Ordered lunches for busy call days, and helped in planning events for management staff.

Nothing special.
Customer Service Roadside Assistance (Former Employee), Robbinsville, NJ –
Cons: they do nothing for the part employee.
Have no control on your working hours when you are hired as a part timer, You are put on night work if you like it or not. Not well staffed. If a couple of people are out you are expected to pick up the slack. There are time when you will get 3 to 5 seconds between calls. You can get the impression this is a real sweat shop. Be prepared to be cursed – more...  out by customers who think they own you. They will demean you with words that you might have never heard of.
The managers are not true managers. Most are promoted though the ranks. Since they don't have the experience with people they become indifferent. Just do what I say or hit the road attitude. They think that because they were there for a few years and had to put up with it you have to too. Not very inovative.
All co-workers are in the same boat. Just struggling to stay afloat. Don't have time to mingle and exchange experiences.
Hardest part of the job was dealing with irate customers which were many. The reason was they did not understand the club plan. They assumed too much and if they didn't get it they took it out on you.
Most enjoyable part of the job was going home and the pay check. – less

Exemplary Customer Service
Customer Service Agent/Calltaker (Former Employee), Phoenix, AZ –
Pros: customer service orientaed
I was only with the organization for five months before I was able to get back into my career field. I was amazed, however, at how much I thought I knew about customer service and how much more I learned that short time! I refer to that training and those times quite often, when training coworkers still, today!

Emergency Roadside Agent (Former Employee), Irving, TX –
The only thing that could and should change is the shift changes, having to battle with 3000 people for one schedule is horrible

Not good for family oriented individuals.
ERS Specialist (Current Employee), Heathrow, FL –
Pros: you get a paycheck
Cons: short breaks, low pay for the amount of abuse you take.
You basically sit at a desk without any type of privacy taking calls from members who need help with their vehicles. You are told when to go to breaks and lunches. If you are late going to a break or lunch that is held against you even though you have no control over it because you are on the phone doing your job. If you try and go on time by putting – more...  your phone on hold that is held against you as well. Your schedule can be changed throughout the day with little notice. Everything is scripted with some unnecessary questions that mostly make members angry. Every call is recorded and you are supposed to be graded on them once a month but it is usually when it is convienent for management. A lot of the supervisors are not very helpful and tend to pass the buck when they are supposed to handle complaints from members. There is never any time to develop any type of relationship with any coworkers. The hardest part of the job would be putting up with all the complaints from members that is none of your doing and is mostly due to misleading phone trees and the members not paying attention to their membership benefits. The lunch break you get is barely enough time to go to the bathroom ,eat and digest your food. The most enjoyable part is leaving each day. What I have learned is that I need to find another job ASAP. – less

Good company to work for. Good management. Low pay.
Light service driver (Former Employee), Indianapolis, IN –
Everything was good about AAA except the pay. Management listened to my input and did their job, the job itself was pretty easy after a few weeks of getting used to it and there was job security there. I was just getting by on the low pay when they cut my 401k. It was enough to look elsewhere for me.

Unless you fit in the clicks you are not considered about your skills and merrit. If you are too good at what you can do or even close to being as good as them, they eliminate you.
