Poor upper management
Director (Former Employee) –  Irvington, NYNovember 11, 2017
For many years, Abbott House has been a generally solid and stable social service agency. The upper management for the last 5 years, however, has not been so good.

Many skilled, talented and dedicated staff are passed over to promote management kiss ups.
Pros
there are a lot of good people who work there
Cons

Working with the disable playing various sports and educating the population
Direct Support Professional (Former Employee) –  100 north broadway, irvingtin nyOctober 18, 2017
The good workers are over worked, while bad staff seems to get away with murder. The paper work could be much better. Need to do more computer reporting than paper processing. Company needs to reward good work. However, very fulfilling and rewarding working with the disable population. We are there to make sure the population is safe. That would involved reporting any abusive situation directed at the population. Whenever, a report is made as it relates to abuse, the whistleblowers are targeted by management. I was transferred for been a whisleblower, saying that i cannot get along with my coworkers. Months after, they brought the abusive staff to work with me at the new located because the parent of the abuse child didn't want that staff near her child.

Family Support Specialist (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYOctober 2, 2017
It was a nice experience, I was hoping it would be a permanent position. Unfortunately, my position was phased out.
If I had the opportunity to go back I would jump at the opportunity.

Soical Worker/Case Planner (Former Employee) –  Westchester County, NYSeptember 21, 2017
Abbott House it the most unprofessional organization that I have ever worked for. Management does not care about their employees and there is no training/guidance and no supervision that is being done.

I learned the HR and upper management DO NOT care how employees are treated and will let supervisors and managers get away with anything.
Pros
The only positive was working with the children.
Cons
Very unprofessional!

Not a good environment, you are put in situations that can cause you harm and management covers up accidents that occur onsite. Stepping stone for new Case Mnagaers

Must discard hci - b2h (bx) program
Health Care Integrator (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYJuly 25, 2017
Working as a HCI @ Abbott House is comparable to being a Glorified, Over Qualified Secretary. The preoccupation with paperwork/cases gives it a third - world factory feel which is a Huge Disservice to the children and families to be served. Often times, you are strongly Discouraged to use your well deserved time earned despite mandatory overtime which leads to very Poor Work-Life Balance. BAD Management; Management are very UnProfessional and very UnEthical. Management try to pit workers against each other in the hope that one or the other get promoted when all along if/when a promotion becomes available, it is going to one of managements less qualified Goons. NO Job Growth and stressful environment. I have NEVER been at a job where there is such a High TurnOver on a daily basis. Some of the most memorable moments are trainings and celebrations for non sensical events that often times included free food. Strongly NOT Recommended to work there. Use your talents, elsewhere.....
Pros
Supportive, caring & Hardworking co workers
Cons
BAD Management, Low pay scales, NO job growth, stressful environment

Horrible company to work for
Social Worker (Former Employee) –  Irvington, NYJuly 17, 2017
Abbott House is not a good company to work for. All that is cared about is the money and funds going towards programs not the actual youth. Management is extremely unsupportive and unfortunately no one seems to care. Despite numerous complaints management did nothing to resolve the issue. The only decent part about this job is working with the youth. The extremely hard work that the social workers do at this agency goes unnoticed and people who do nothing of value get the credit.
Pros
working with the youth
Cons
unsupportive supervisor, bad pay

Abbott house is great I love that you can gain experience with possibilities of promotion. All around great company even for people just entering the field. Not a hard job at all but you must have compassion for the individuals and treat them with the most respect.

WSP,Family support care giver,skill building
WSP,Caregiver support, skill building, (Current Employee) –  Bronx, NYJune 14, 2017
Working for Abbott House as a WSP (waiver service provider) is rewarding because you get the opportunity to meet people and assist families that are under-served throughout the community. However; insufficient warnings are given when an assignment is being terminated and or the family chooses to be non-compliant. Also in such instances another case should be given/offered. Stressful; especially if this is one of your main sources of income. Management also frequently changes without adequate notice.
