Very political. Management very poor. Hardest part of job was making sure you did not upset anyone for fear of losing your job.

Pros: great training facility
Academi is a great organization to work for. The Management works well with employees and makes every attempt to accommodate its employees while accomplishing the task at hand. They have a great training facility and awesome instructors. Academi affords its employees plenty of time off and pays well. I have had an awesome four years with the company.

No typical day, really. It's a very fluid work environment. Duties could range from escorting high level diplomats to venues to writing reports and training schedules. Coworkers are among the best America has to offer. Management below the corporate level is excellent but above that they are somewhat out of touch. Benefits are hard to beat if you can handle 9 months a year away from home.

Armed Security Guard (Current Employee), Moyock, NCDecember 20, 2013
Pros: meet new people who have done this for a while, get to work with ex miltary who are squared away, paid flight for vacations
Cons: takes a while to get your arming agreement, but its out of the companies hands. not their fault at all.
Co-Workers and Supervisors are mostly ex military with a few only served as police. Interact with the locals from time to time. Good experience and you can later be qualified to get trained on XPG or WPS.

inventory (Former Employee), Moyock, NCAugust 27, 2013
Pros: great co-worker
Cons: management
This company is not honest with its vendors, employees, nor its customers and the company policies change according to who you are. No room for advancement unless you do things there way which isn't always the honest way never speak you mind and never think you are safe for telling upper manger when something isn't right because they work against you until you get fired laid off or you cant take the abuse anymore and quit

Armed Security Guard (Current Employee), Garmsīr, HELApril 15, 2013
Pros: good work hours, plenty of time off
Cons: poor health plan, poor completion bonus, and for the conditions here, poor compensation.
Typical day at work here is like any other static security shift work. I cannot say that I have learned anything from this company I did not already know. The management here seemed more interested in themselves and improving their own situation than the teams they are meant to manage. My co-workers range from imminently qualified to seemingly unqualified and any number of variants in between. The most difficult part of this job is simply being removed from home. The added stresses of sub-par food, lack of laundry services and showers/restrooms are simply things that happen in this line of work from time to time. The best part of this job is that there is nothing to spend our paychecks on so all anyone can do is save money here.

Let me explain the living conditions here in Afghanistan that Academi is allowing to go on, no meals only MRE'S to eat, no showers only bottle water or baby wipes, no bathrooms only port-a-johns, no sinks to wash hands only anti-bacterial, no px only shows up once a month and only takes cash (still can't find the ATM over here) now no generators for power to turn on a/c or charge battery in laptop to watch a movie, 30 minutes a day internet access. But hey I get paid once a month....What a joke of a company...

Pros: nice work environment, chow hall, good insurance, great people who work hard
Cons: location not good for most people in va.
Academi is a really nice place to work. It has and still is seeing some changes, however, great steps forward have been made. If you like to win and have a "can-do" attitude, this is the place to be. We don't have time to do anything other than succeed!

International Trade Compliance (Former Employee), MoyockFebruary 27, 2013
Pros: salary
Cons: long hours, unprofessional, disorganized, non-compliant
After working for several large companies I accepted a job with Academi. I was very surprised by the lack of professionalism displayed by management. Cronyism was prevalent. Everything was last minute and those requesting your assistance or support rarely provided you with the necessary information you need. The company was fined 42 million dollars and placed under a consent agreement after investigation in 2010.. They are back to their old ways. If you are seeking a legal or trade compliance career I would RUN! No amount of money in the world would be worth the long hours, stress and drama that happens DAILY at this company!
