Pros: empolyee discount on merchandise. great management staff.
Cons: working every sunday.
The associates are hard working and that makes my job easier. I submit payroll, prepare reports for all levels of management. The management team is very supportive of the associates needs and assist in the work/family balancing The job is very enjoyable as we service customers who have a love for the outdoors. I have learned that not associates want – more... to work as a team so I strive to get them involved where I can to get them onboard. A typical day is correcting time punches, checking attendance, serving the associates needs as well as customers. – less

Overall I love working at Academy for various reasons. My co-workers are the best people to work with, there like my second family. The customers are so loving and the regulars remember your name and always ask for you to help them if your godo to them. I absoluetly love my job!
Buyer, Field & Stream (Former Employee), Katy, TX – December 2, 2013
Pros: great benefits, good people
Cons: poor work life balance
Academy is a driven company who wants to bring a great shopping experience to their customers. They push employees at the corporate level very hard, and aren't always concerned with the work/life balance. Management is pushing hard for changes since they were purchased by an investment company, with the plan of taking the company public. Systems were – more... a disappointment at Academy, and the mindset that how they have always done things is the only way to do things. There are a lot of good people at Academy, who truly work hard every day for their customers. – less

Pros: relaxed atmosphere
Cons: no breaks for part time workers
A typical day can be from slow to fast pace; which may include from providing customers with one on one customer service, to setting and maintain weekly ad signage, performing price/SKU look-ups, and setting and maintain planograms, to ensure correct pricing and to maintain planograms and make sure they stay correct to not only keep vendors happy to – more... to help promote items in the way that vendors would like. – less

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee), Kannapolis, NC – November 15, 2013
Pros: the admin at our store is fantastic
Cons: getting sent home early because the store didn't calcuate sales for the week accurately.
I have been there almost a year and I find it very rewarding. There are a few things that needs to worked out and because I am a positive person and see the glass as half full but open to be refilled, I am confident that the changes needed will be addressed as the company grows. The one main thing that needs to be addressed is schedules. WOW they really – more... miss the mark on that as well as making the full time associates work a shortened week when there is a holiday approaching. In short if you normally get 40 hrs you will work 32 that week but get paid for the NORMAL 40. That to me is a rip off! – less

Pros: love the people i work with
Cons: no breaks
I am only part time, So I get a lot of 6 hour shifts. Managment says you only get a hour break after 7 hours but the policy says different. I do not know how they can keep good workers if you do not give them time to just sit for a bit.
