Old Mutual (US) Holdings is the holding company for a group of about 20 asset management boutiques collectively known as Old Mutual Asset Management (US), or OMAM (US). The firm's multi-manager structure allows it to offer more than 160 different investment strategies across a range of asset classes, from domestic and international equities, to fixed income and alternative investments, to real estate and timber property management. Its offerings include retirement plans, mutual funds, trust services, and separately managed accounts. The company is a subsidiary of UK-based financial services concern Old Mutual.
OMAM (US) and its affiliates have some $260 billion of assets under management for institutional and high-net-worth investors. The company added a new affiliate in 2010 when it acquired Echo Point Investment Management, a boutique specializing in international growth equities for clients in the US and Canada. That year, OMAM (US) reported growth in its assets under management, as well as in its bottom line, as recoveries in the markets brought in more client assets and helped the company to regain some of the investment losses it experienced during the recession.
In 2010 Tom Turpin stepped down as CEO of OMAM (US) after two years at the helm. Former Legg Mason executive Peter Bain was named his successor early the next year. The leadership change precedes an expected initial public offering of OMAM (US), which Old Mutual hopes will occur by the end of 2012. A possible new moniker for the firm is yet to be announced. – less
