Great for a first job
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, MOMay 24, 2017
the pay wasn't the best, this job is more suited for a young person that doesn't have many bills to pay. I had fun working there for almost two years.

Cashier (Former Employee) –  Port Orchard, WAMay 24, 2017
You get a break every 4 hours and an hour lunch when assigned but if customers are lined up you must wait. You are assigned a radio that must stay on while on break in case you are needed.
Pros
mostly family like coworkers
Cons
little to no security for cashiers

Cashier (Former Employee) –  Lakewood, COMay 24, 2017
Ace was an amazing company to work for. The people were respectful, the employees were awesome. It was an overall great experience. The work culture was awesome, every morning we had a store wide "pep talk" to start the day. The hardest part of the job was working with customers that had never been into the store before.

Job experience varies greatly from store to store. People make the difference.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Lafayette, CAMay 23, 2017
Location and owner's attitude influence employees experiences. Customers themselves can make or break your day. I was fortunate to be at an Ace with good family attitude, making it a workplace family. The location catered to an area with a high percentage of retired persons, which was both enjoyable and frustrating at times. Hey, but what job isn't?... Overall, a good experience.

Ace Hardware is a fun job but not for the pay. You are lucky to even get a raise and plus there is no such thing as a promotion in that business. Just work like a dog!!!

Solid company to work for with challenging responsibilities and opportunities for advancement if willing to relocate.
Manager (Former Employee) –  Maumelle, ARMay 22, 2017
Fast paced, communications and adjustments made with work daily. Interactions between staff and hourly team members relaxed in working together to get the job done.

Many opportunities to learn skills if you take initiative. Most people wait to be told what to do.

Management cares about people and their success.

Workplace culture is interactive among departments and staff, working together.

Hardest part of the job is the physical labor and heat in summer. The distribution center is not air conditioned.

Most enjoyable part of the job is the willingness of everyone to step up and help when significant challenges occur. Seeing this team work is exciting.
Pros
Safety is high priority, quarterly lunches, health/life insurance, 401k, management to hourly team members relationships
Cons
Heat in the summer, expectations to work during icy road conditions, pay is moderate, unplanned overtime

Stock Boy (Former Employee) –  Aurora, ILMay 21, 2017
Make sure shelves are stocked. Check to see what needs to be done for the day and start/finish them as you go through the day. Assist customers as they come in (includes key cutting, assisting with home problems, finding products, pump propane, etc.). Given at least half an hour of break time when needed, and an hour for lunch if shift lasts longer then 8 hours. Hardest part of the job is trying to find the best solution for a customers issues when they need assistance.

Floor Hand (Former Employee) –  Odessa, FLMay 18, 2017
Wouldn't let me take 5 classes in college because it would take away from work. Was always short staffed. I learned the entire store in 6 months but people that were there before me only knew one area.
Cons
Never felt appreciated
