The culture here definitely takes time to get used to.

I did not feel supported by management.

inappropriate behavior amongst staff

There is abuse towards students.

I do my very best to not think about my time working here.
Pros

CLS (Current Employee) –  West Milford, NJMay 4, 2017
Benefits and within time advanced within the company. There is obstacles within work life balance depending on the position. Should be compensated more based on responsibility. Exposure to people skills and challenges help better you as a worker and exposes one to the medical side as well .

upbeat job and can be a fun work environment
Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Mount Dora, FLMarch 3, 2017
each day is different it is never a day that is the same. I learned a lot on the different behaviors and how to care for each of the individuals in a different way, the job can be strenuous and carries a large work load. The most enjoyable thing for me is working hand and hand with the individuals and showing them different things and watch them be able to produce and show you what they have learned.

A warehouse for Developmentally Challenged individuals
STATE DIRECTOR OF TRAINING AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT (Former Employee) –  Bear, DEFebruary 21, 2017
In a effort to turn a profit, the individuals do not receive what would be necessary for their optimal performance. Combined with over worked and under educated direct staff makes the job unnecessarily difficult.
Pros
Home atmosphere, down time, and overtime
Cons
Home atmosphere, down time, and sometimes too much overtime

Vocational Supervisor (Current Employee) –  bear,deFebruary 17, 2017
The company is not well organized and it is not an easy place to work. Staff here are not valued and the morale is very low. Advoserv was once a great place to work, but the culture has changed drastically.

DSP (Current Employee) –  Swedesboro, NJFebruary 6, 2017
Advoserv promises to be everything they're not. The staff is not compensated what they should be. The job can be boring at times or extremely stressful due to the consumers and the staff.

A place to gain experience
Direct Support Professional (Current Employee) –  Branchburg, NJJanuary 3, 2017
If you've never worked in this field before your in for a trip especially in advo. Many clients can get dangerous. You have to always be on guard because you will get hit/ punched/ bit/ scratched you name it. You drive them to program and back home and sometimes they can act up in the van. Its a very overwhelming job that pays only 10.10 an hour and you do so much. You have to write about 9 reports a day (paragraph each) plus they're daily goals. Management doesn't listen to anything you have to say. Very unorganized place and you work 12 hour shifts with no breaks. Oh and this job is filled with a lot of drama everyone talks about everyone. Only good thing is they recently changed schedules and you get 4 days off one week and 3 days off the next. there's always OT so you can make ALOT of money here. You learn a lot here though I can say that much if your interested in this field. Good luck
Pros
Ot, weekends are relaxing, 4/3 days off a week
Cons
No breaks, you will get hit, pay is bad, management, unorganized, too much paperwork

Direct Care specialist (Former Employee) –  Mullica Hill, NJDecember 29, 2016
If you work with staff that are willing to help you you would love the job and the day goes by fast. Advoserv is a great learning environment and trains you to the best of their ability. Sometimes the job itself can get hectic but with the right staff the problem can get solved quickly.

Community Living Specialist (Current Employee) –  NJMarch 28, 2016
Working here its like being in High School all over again. Some co-workers don't work as a team to deal with the clients or taking part in their job and trying to keep the homes clean.
