This is not a pre-recorded message. Aegis Communications Group (which does business as Aegis BPO) provides outsourced telemarketing and customer care services through about 50 facilities in Africa, the Asia/Pacific, Costa Rica, India, and the US. Through its operations (which includes Aegis PeopleSupport), it handles both inbound and outbound calling services, order provisioning, and multilingual communications programs. Besides teleservices, Aegis offers online customer services such as e-mail responses, real-time chat, and data collection. Major clients have included AT&T, Qwest Communications, and Western Union. India-based conglomerate Essar Group owns Aegis, which was established in 1985.
In 2011 the company expanded its workforce in Costa Rica and opened a new office tower in the Philippines. Aegis also acquired several small foreign companies during 2011 and the company announced plans to hire 4,000 workers in the US by the end of 2013.
Aegis has been steadily growing by buying out other rival business process outsourcing (BPO) companies. In 2010 Aegis made a move to enhance its position in the Latin American market when it purchased Actionline, a BPO firm owning seven centers in five cities across Argentina. Actionline serves the telecom, insurance, banking, and energy industries.
The year before, Aegis expanded into Australia with the acquisition of BPO provider UCMS Group for about $41 million. Months later Aegis penetrated another emerging market when it obtained CCN Group PTY Ltd., a privately owned outsourcing firm in South Africa. CCN owns two call centers and caters mainly to clients residing in the UK. In late 2008, Aegis paid about $250 million for rival PeopleSupport, which provides a variety of BPO services from facilities in the Philippines and in Costa Rica. – less
