Material Handler, ALGONA IOWA - October 8, 2012
Overall, the pay and benefits are good, and I enjoyed having a full week off at the end of every 14 day rotationof day/night shifts. But, the way they continuously change your schedule made it hard to plan anything ever. The management DOES NOT know how to train people. Instead of working on what you don't know and helping you improve, they start over at square one and you lose time. I started over three times, and often went weeks without any review on the job skills, even when I requested them, before they did anything about it. After the third time, I was fired, maybe I would or maybe I wouldnt have learned the job requirements and skills if they had trained me better. I don't know, but I wouldn't recommend a job as a material handler unless you already know how to run a train engine as it is their rail training in which no one seems to pass. At least in Algona, very few people stay beyond their 90 day probation because they either get frustrated with training and quit or they get fired!
