Airgas only cares about stockholders not employees
safety technician (Former Employee), Tyler, TX – May 18, 2013
Pros: decent benefits
Cons: zero hesitation to terminate employees
Airgas and Airgas Onsite Safety is a corporate driven company that cares about nothing but profit margins and pleasing their stockholders. The only objective that management has is making their annual bonuses and will lay off or fire whoever they want to clear expenses. They do not hesitate to close down entire branches if they underperform for even – more... a few months. Training programs are a joke and lack any kind of expertise and then will throw you on a safety job to get it covered. There is no room for advancement because they do not promote from within, but instead hire from the outside. This company is cut-throat and cold blooded. Buyer BEWARE. – less

Very poor management
Finance (Former Employee), Tulsa, OK – May 3, 2013
Pros: great co-workers
Cons: hostile culture and extremely poor management
When Airgas decided to go from separate companies to one company with 4 business service centers, they promoted many unqualified people to management positions. The corporate culture at the Tulsa BSC is very much a yes sir, how high do you want me to jump atmosphere. There is a great divide between the managers and the average employees, or as one of – more... the top management put it "the lowly people". Most of the average employees are great and do a wonderful job in spite of the sometimes hostile managers. The company does not treat you with respect or professionalism. If you are looking for a position where you enjoy going to work everyday, where your opinion is valued, and your hard work is appreciated, avoid Airgas. If you have other options, take them. – less

Outside sales people run the show.......
Store worker (Former Employee), Grand Junction, CO – April 22, 2013
Pros: great pay
Cons: bad workers run the show and not the manager...
Most of the outside sales people put the blame on other workers and customers have problems getting hold of the salesperson. The shipping worker has anger problems and make life hell for other workers. The grand junction store is a bad place to work...

Extremely Poor Management
DOT Documentation Speciaist (Former Employee), Tulsa, OK – April 15, 2013
Cons: no flexibility, hostile management, no personal time even on lunches
Airgas is a good company other than very poor management. They seem to put people in management positions when they have no people skills and aren't able to communicate to other employees. My manager was bipolar and everyone knew it, flying off the handle all the time. It was borderline harassment and hostile work environment and I won't work for someone – more... like that. Avoid this department if at all possible. You will be miserable after about 3 months when true personalities start coming out. – less

Whats the starting pay

ARLX – March 20, 2013

If your seeking a driving job with this company... DON'T! They treat drivers like their stupid. There too many to count, rules and safety procedures for anything and everything. There is no respect for drivers, from the corporate level, down to the branch locations. Work load is ridicules. Load truck in morning, unload than reload at customers. Than unload empties at end of work day. Pay for having a Hazmat and Tanker is less than what you would make hauling non hazmat freight. Not worth the physical work or having a hazmat endorsement. Stay away....

Horrible management
driver (Current Employee), KS – March 1, 2013
Pros: good pay and benefits
Cons: hostile management and long hours
My supervisor and his supervisor are completely unqualified as leaders. Every day im threatened with my job and thats supposed to be my motivation. The safety culture is good but it is wielded like a threat. If you have any accident no matter how minor you can expect to get a write up and possibly fired. Looking for a new job...

Relax and breathe the Airgas
Account Manager (Former Employee), Whittier, CA – February 23, 2013
Pros: opportunity for advancement
Cons: sitting for several hours per day, cold-calling
A day at Airgas consist of making 70 out/inbound calls that are purposeful for prospective customers. Definitely organization and time management are the biggest lessons learned from this organization. the You have several responsibilities. In order to meet daily goals and objectives you have to be organized in order to do so effectively. Positive and – more... encouraging work environment was shared among my former co-workers. The hardest part of the job was sitting for long periods of time. The most enjoyable part of this job is actually assisting the safety of a company's employees. – less

The worst experience in my professional career
CS3 (Former Employee), Kennesaw, GA – February 20, 2013
Pros: good medical benefits package
Cons: seriously unqualified supervisors who are abusive and petty
This company has unqualified supervisors, who abuse the reports in their charge. They foster an environment of non-communication amongst departments, and openly say that the president likes people who can keep their mouths shut. The supervisor over me was insecure, jealous, uneducated, and micromanaged her reports to death. The credit department is – more... a joke and it was painful to have a converstion with management who stumbled to find words pertaining to subjects that should be commonplace for even entry level management. They foster an environment that allows supervisors to alienate reports, discriminate against reports, and insult reports. If one person is a threat and in line to be promoted, the supervisors fire them without just cause. This company claims to be a great place to work, and this is only true if you are inside the clique. It is a seriously mismanaged company at the middle management level because they make it up as they go along and have no clue how to properly direct human capital. It was the most stressful working environment I ever had the misfortune of working in. I would not recommend this company to anyone who is not a sadomasacist. – less

Lack of concern for employees
Truck Driver/Warehouse Assistant (Former Employee), LaPorte, TX and Houston (Hempstead), TX – February 19, 2013
Cons: healthcare, unhealthy work conditions.
Delivery and pick up of industrial gas cylnders and assisting in day to day warehouse duties. I learned safety practices and handling in transport of cylnders. Most importantly, I learned never to get injured on the job. The hole tone of being a normal employee drops to an all time low. Management portrayed the impression of being concerned but lacked – more... people skills. Componies interest was the only concern. For the most part, co-workers were dissatified with some work conditions and always worked in fear of losing their jobs. The hardest part of the job was not being appreciated and showing up for work. The most enjoyable part of the job was working alone. – less
