End welder (Current Employee) –  Walbridge, OHMay 22, 2017
This job had great pay good benefits, but the hours are long and there's lots of forced overtime. It's extremely hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There's always a chance to work the weekend depending on how the production throughout the week is.
Pros
Great pay. Great benefits.
Cons
Longs hours, extremely hot in the summer, cold in the winter.

Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) –  Franklin, INApril 6, 2017
There is new management in Franklin and things are really good there now. wages are up and benifits are great. Working a rotating schedule so nobody works 7 days anymore. New equipment and getting ready to move into a new building. This place has come a long way in the last year. I left for a better job but would recomend AK to anyone looking for a solid company to work for.
Pros
positive change in management
Cons
attendance policy is very tough

Material Handler/Assembler (Former Employee) –  Franklin, INJanuary 12, 2015
We worked 38 straight days of 12 hour shifts in July and August in a non-controlled climate facility while also not getting fair wage compensation or any benefits to speak of. It was a company with poor leadership and was not very organized and in fact I had to train myself in the position for which I was hired.
Pros
Lots of overtime
Cons
They would change shift hours or add Sunday produtction with little or no notice.

Outside Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Walbridge, OHNovember 7, 2014
Company run by the Operations department. Nobody stands up for Administration or sales so the quality problems continue to pull future sales down.
Pros
Great to be part of AK Steel
Cons
Executives are afraid of Operations.

Shipping (Former Employee) –  Walbridge, Oh.August 10, 2014
The pay is good, and that's all that's good. Supervisors have write up quotas. If they don't write up enough people in a given month, they get in trouble. When you ask a supervisor if they can show you how the company wants you to do certain things on the forklifts, they can't. None of them are certified to drive them. Some have no shipping experience and yet they are shipping supervisors. If you can handle the overbearing saftey rules you'll do ok here. And also, always kiss up, don't have any opinions or thoughts, just do as your told.
Pros
Pay, people you work with.
Cons
Supervisors, extreme saftey, rediculous rules.

asst. mill op. pack leader forklift op. (Former Employee) –  Walbridge, OHNovember 27, 2012
Job description: I was trained at this job to work on a steel mill that produces steel tubing.im very good at quality checks involving micrometers, tape mearsures,to make sure the tube is in proper specs. For the customer according to the tolerences specified on a mill card.there were many responsibilities that come along with that job involving a lot of industrial machinery press, video jet and keeping constant supply of anything needed to keep the mill running .I was also a pit leader and ran my own crew packing the tubing coming off the mill as it was being produced.Length changes, video jet, checking ovality and etc. when bundles were ready to be removed I would use a forklift to remove from racks and stack them on 4x4s 3bundle on top of 3 usually 20ft long and 3ft high and 3ft wide.my forklift skills are extensive. And multitasking was a must.i know how to do all weld tests destruction, expantion,rb for strength, and can see weld splits by eye fairly quickly.quality and safety is key in this line of work.
Pros
benifits were great.
Cons
very physical demandind, i enjoyed it though, good way too stay in shape.
