Fun workplace with rigorous hours with metal coatings.
Quality Control Part Time Technician (Current Employee) –  Columbus, OHMay 31, 2015
-A typical day at work was in the Quality Control lab where i tested paint by drawing it down on different types of metal comparable to what our customer would use.
- Tested properties such as paint color, viscosity, durability, and film thickness.
-I learned what it was like to work in an industrial production setting.
- Management were nice but not good communicators or motivators.
- Co-workers were very nice people that could help me with any questions I had.
- Hardest part of the job was making adjustments on the paint that would come in out of spec.
- The most enjoyable part of the job was the atmosphere of the lab. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
Pros
All people i worked with were nice and helpful
Cons
Communication was poor. Worked 6-7 days a week.

Warehouse Operations Manager (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAMay 20, 2015
There wasn't much room for growth unless you moved to Texas.
With that being said the experience prepared me to move forward with my career goals.

Lab is extremely busy with barely any time to take a break. However the work load is not terrible. I really can not say anything more I have not worked there in over ten years.

Process/Finishing Operator (Current Employee) –  La Porte TexasMay 11, 2015
They promote unqualified workers by how much they socialize outside of work. Favors those of a particular group. They've done a management purge so things might change though. As far as the job, it's pretty easy and their plans to increase pay is a plus. The culture was poor but I see change already. 4 on 4 off 12 hours shifts. They are increasing job responsibility along with the pay.
Pros
Easy Job
Cons
Favortism

Research Scientist (Current Employee) –  Brewster, NYMay 5, 2015
It's not that Akzo is awful, it's just fallen woefully behind its competitors in developing new technology. While there's lip service paid to improving technology and prioritizing new projects, the lack of capital investments in these endeavors means nothing will really every get done.
Pros
job security
Cons
promotion through attrition, low commitment to excellence

AkzoNobel Coatings Inc.
Quality Control Technician (Former Employee) –  Salem, OregonMarch 31, 2015
This company has unlimited potential for success. However the team of people running this facility (management) are so disengaged with the hourly employees that not only do they not see the day to day issues that can easily be improved, they also set the tone for employees that it is better for all hourly employees to keep there heads down and opinions to themselves. They (the management team) encourage employees to bring up issues to improve the working conditions and day to day challenges so they can be evaluated. That's a great front! When these issues are communicated you are told in the most politically correct way that nobody cares and you are wasting my time. This facility is staffed with some of the most hard working, strong, competent people I know, yet they are treated as just a number. It is really unfortunate.
Pros
Good benifits, great schedule and good people (co-workers)
Cons
poorly managed, negative environment, disengauged management staff and HR.
