Very fast paced, very competitive
Crew (Current Employee) –  Johnson City, NY 13790October 21, 2017
Associates are timed on speed of item scanning per minute, which can lead to reprimand and termination if not fast enough. However, customers regularly ask associates to slow down, which leads to poor scan times and further reprimands. All tasks expected of stock associates must be completed within ten minutes, which can prove difficult when trying to move a pallet around a crowded store. Benefits and pay are worth the effort for full-time employees. District Manager visits often, in case of concerns.
Pros
free water bottles for employees, personal lockers
Cons
no employee discount

Fast-paced and stressful
Store Associate (Current Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHOctober 19, 2017
I loved working with Aldi until my store and another store combined in December 2016. Now, it is very stressful between the amount of workers there are and how busy it is. We usually don't get out before 2 hours after close because of how much we have to do. It used to be family oriented. We used to not work on Sundays or holidays. However, now it's just focused on money; expanding store hours on holidays and Sundays. My store is the busiest store in Cincinnati. I work in a bad part of town and most of the customers are just rude. I work a few blocks away from the most stolen from Walmart in America. We deal with a bunch of thieves among other things. The job is very fast paced and I haven't been able to really keep up since I had my baby in June. It was especially difficult to transition from a small store and going to school while working part-time to a million dollar store and working full-time while pregnant. So much was new to me due to my availability changing and I was forced to jump right in, in the beginning of my pregnancy.
Pros
coworkers, benefits
Cons
inconsistent management/policies, flexible hours.

Facilities Maintenance Manager (Current Employee) –  Moreno Valley, CAOctober 19, 2017
Aldi caters to the children that are known as the warehouse selectors. They are over paid and can't seem to do anything wrong. They drop product, damage building, and equipment and even at times run over a few of their fellow employees.
Pros
The office personnel are great.
Cons
The directors and there children(warehouse selectors/DM's) ruin it.

Hard Work, Great Benefits, No long term reason to work for
Store Manager (Current Employee) –  CaliforniaOctober 19, 2017
In California the company is inconsistent and not really a great company to work for. They do not have the best upper management and they change the objective every other week which makes it hard to operate a store. There is also no advancement from the store level out so you can not do the job long term because your body breaks down and then they just kick you out.
Pros
Decent Pay, Good Benefits
Cons
No work life balance, no advancement, upper management is poor

Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 18, 2017
My experience at Aldi all together was pretty difficult. The expectation of a Store Manager is unrealistic definitely with the amount of support your given.
Pros
Compensation is really well.
Cons
Youre expected to perform the job for 3 people.

Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 17, 2017
9 years working with Aldi determined to climb the leadership ladder and finally made it as a store manager. No guidance or development was properly given which lead to mistakes not being corrected or even acknowledged. This position is the most important in the store and for some reason is given the least training....
Pros
Paid well
Cons
Back breaking unappreciated work environment

Always a task at hand, constant movement
Associate (Former Employee) –  Bay Shore, NYOctober 17, 2017
A little bit of everything done throughout the course of a shift. Between helping customers, condensing empty boxes, stocking bread, mean or produce. And you could always be the one that's the main cashier on the register which means you'll be consumed with ringing people up most of the day.
Pros
Good pay, benefits
Cons
Good consistent effort goes unappreciated. Upper management unreceptive to perspective.

Lean and structured environment
Shift Manager (Former Employee) –  Syracuse, NYOctober 13, 2017
The lean structure provides for optimum productivity and maximum profitability. The daily tasks are clearly defined with achievable targets, creating a positive employee-employer relationship. Although the duties can be challenging, the compensation is well within reason. The most difficult aspect is mastering the craft of multitasking to overcome the fast-paced culture within the organization. The most rewarding part is the close relationships that result from small teams.
Pros
Flexible hours
Cons
Weekend shifts
