Atkore International is hanging on to a handful of electrical and metals processing and distribution businesses on behalf of Tyco International. Its Electrical and Infrastructure arm makes conduits and cables, and cable management systems. An Engineered Products and Services segment produces pipes and tubes, as well as fence framework and structural steel sheets, all in various sizes. Atkore sells its lineup under brands Allied Tube & Conduit, AFC Cable Systems, and others, through retailers, electrical and plumbing distributors, OEMs, and general contractors in North America, Brazil, the UK, France, Australia, and New Zealand. Late in 2010, Tyco spun off a 51% stake in the company to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.
Atkore's plans for growth include expansion into rebounding construction areas of the US (current facilities are in older, established markets) and beyond. The company intends to increase its already strong presence in Brazil by investing in its current manufacturing facilities. It is building a 195,000 square foot plant in Changshu, China expected to open in 2011.
In late 2011 Atkore announced plans to acquire Razor Wire International for an undisclosed amount. The deal calls for the integration of Razor Wire products into Atkore's RazorRibbon barbed tape segment. – less
