Was great for awhile, but then the entire executive management team turned over and the entire team was replaced one by one and this filtered down through middle management and ultimately I left for a better opportunity.
Pros

Although AMB is not a popular bank they have great culture and history. I would recommend anyone who wants to pursue a career in finance to apply. Weekend shifts rotate and its just Saturday 8:30 to 2:30 and its fairly slow on weekends.

Reconciliation Specialist (Current Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 20, 2017
The culture here at Amalgamated is pretty good. In my profession, it is pretty much a fast paced environment, which I do not mind. It makes for a quick day of work.

An institution like Amalgamated Bank, you are required to wear many hats. At times, it is not bad but it can effect your quality of work. As an employee you cannot dedicate the same amount of energy in one area as in another which can lead to ineffective work.
Pros
Management
Cons
Work Life Balance and no room for growth

Not a long term employer
HR Coordinator (Former Employee) –  New York, NYFebruary 8, 2017
The work culture is being shown to the public as being progressive, but that's not what happens when you start working there. Very old principals come into play and it is noticed right away that the morale of the employees are truly at an all-time low. It is automatically assumed that it's the managers, but that's not the case. The pressure comes from the CEO which brings a depressing culture.

There's no 401k match, very "old school" mentality, and never ambitious to find the solution to the issue, only trying to find of who to blame.

Use this company as a stepping stone. This environment is not one where you are able to grow. Also expect to have no work/life balance. That is non-existent.

Sometimes it's busy, other times it's not. Great people to work with. Understandable half the time. Sometimes exageration over simple things happen.

Computer Operator (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 5, 2016
Gossipy company with bad management. There is zero room for growth unless you kiss some butt. If hired, you will be grossly unpaid so prepare your resume for your next company.
Pros
Banking hours
Cons
The staff

Administrative Receptionist (Current Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 13, 2016
The hardest part of my work day was not having much to do. Everyone is pretty nice and quiet for the most part. Actually the workers look bored and walked around the office to look at what you're doing on your computer screen and comment on how you look like you have an easy job.
Pros
Easy
Cons
Easy, boring, not learning

I would say that the customers are extremely loyal to the bank because of the organizations mission and values. The culture is progressive and each branch has a unique staff.
