No room for growth
Computer Operator (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILOctober 5, 2016
Gossipy company with bad management. There is zero room for growth unless you kiss some butt. If hired, you will be grossly unpaid so prepare your resume for your next company.
Pros
Banking hours
Cons
The staff

The hardest part of my work day was not having much to do. Everyone is pretty nice and quiet for the most part. Actually the workers look bored and walked around the office to look at what you're doing on your computer screen and comment on how you look like you have an easy job.
Pros
Easy
Cons
Easy, boring, not learning

Teller/Payroll Teller (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 19, 2016
Monday is one of my most loved day at work, mostly because the day flies by in a flash. During those hours I would l communicate with my customers needs and their transactions. Management is always good we are all team players and it makes the job seems lighter and fun. I always enjoy my job.

comfortable work environment, mostly friendly people. Not exactly the most educational experience. People don't go out of their way to teach you about the field.

Assistant Vice President/ Branch Service Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 7, 2015
I would say that the customers are extremely loyal to the bank because of the organizations mission and values. The culture is progressive and each branch has a unique staff.

Amalgamated Bank is a small firm that believes in on-the-job-training as well as cross-training. It is ideal for anyone looking for experience.
Pros
A tightly knit family atmosphere.
Cons
Small establishment that has difficulty competing with larger firms.

when I first started there, it was a pleasure and not a job. the new senior management staff is out for the old mighty dollar and does not care for those good hard working loyal employees.

Human Resources Associate (Former Employee) –  New yorkFebruary 17, 2015
amalgamated bank WAS a great place to work for however, in the last year it has been difficult and extremely stressful. Lack of direction and poor management and favoritism. I would not work for amalgamated if asked again nor would I bank with them.
Cons
poor management, lack of direction, high turnaround no loyalty to dedicated employees who work lon hard hours and lack of appreciation.

Learned a lot working for this bank. Was able to learn all roles in the department- from Accounting roles to Treasury roles.
I managed some of the daily avtivities of the accounting department such as the cash position of the bank, GL postings and Accounts Payable checks and ACH.
Monthly:
Board Report, Accruals, explanation of Income & expense variances, reconciliations of over 100 GL accounts and Fixed assets.
Quarterly:
FFIEC 031 Call Report, accrual adjustments

A typical day at work consisted of processing customer transactions, opening new accounts, resolving any problems and pulling reports. Also balanced branch teller work at the end of the day.

Assistant Branch Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJune 24, 2013
The hardest part of working at Amalgamated bank is dealing with upper management. My co-workers were great to work with, the most enjoyable part of working is cross selling to the customer cause amalgamated have some good products. The hardest part of the job is system problems all the time. The work at amalgamated is more hand on you learn more because it's a small bank with less department
Pros
great employees and customers
Cons
non management union

Senior Trust Portfolio Administrator (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 3, 2013
A typical day at work is filled with various communications with brokers, investment managers, portfolio managers, and internal departments. I learned a lot about the trade support process and it's relation to the stock market and trading. Management creates a family like atmosphere and the co-workers are all very nice to one another. The hardest part of the job has more to do with the bad economy than it does with the work itself. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people you get to work with are very friendly and courteous.
Pros
family environment
