Associate (Former Employee), Lewisberry pa – May 19, 2013
A typical day at work is arriving and basically have a start up meeting every morning. Then start picking things, or packing customers orders for the whole day. Management are good there always smiling and help out. Nothing at amazon is really hard but its just alot of work.

Great place if you have no where else to work
Packer (Current Employee), Chester, VA – May 13, 2013
Pros: employment and fair benefits
Cons: everything else
If you are looking for a place to work where you have opportunities to advance and possibly use the skills you have acquired over the years then look somewhere else. The position that you are hired into will be the position that you will quit from unless you are out of the military. All of the area managers at the Chester fulfilment center are former – more... military whether they are qualified to manage people or not. If you are not former military, do not even think that you will advance past the position that you are hired into. The best that you will do is a lateral move. – less

I love the people I've met through working at Amazon.
Tier 1 Warehouse Associate (Current Employee), Chattanooga, TN – May 7, 2013
Pros: comopetitive benefits
Cons: just like high school all over again
There isn't much time for a personal life when working at Amazon. You work up to 60 hours a week. The managers are mostly fresh out of college with no experience. If you're lucky enough to get a mature manager then chances are good things will be easier on you. I have met some of the best people while working at Amazon. It's very cultured. If you are – more... hired on direct things are easier on you for sure, but if you have to go through their temp service you really have to prove yourself to get the opportunity to be hired on direct. – less

Nice job with good benefits and mobility. Hard work but satisfying.
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee), San Bernardino, CA – April 28, 2013
Pros: good benefits and a good culture.
Cons: scheduling issues for me with school.
Overall, a solid work environment with customer centric goals and a strong emphasis on employee safety. Work was very challenging at time but very rewarding. Typically I performed a hodgepodge of duties ranging from the beginning of the ordering process (grabbing items and loading conveyers) to the end (loading all the packaged items on trucks) and – more... everything in-between. A very fast paced environment where an employee goes where they are needed, and no job is ignored simply because it is not in the job description. Every worker works in every capacity. – less

Not somewhere I would recomment anyone close to me to work.
Team Member (Former Employee), Shepherdsville, KY – April 25, 2013
I would have recommended Zappos (now Amazon) to anyone before September 1st 2012, but now its just awful there. They took all of our FREE benefits away and they didn't hold on to culture activities and the true values of the company like they said they would. And the management there needs serious work. I wouldn't recommend and or my family or friends – more... to work there. Also, I wasn't happy with the top out pay there. I think its ridiculously low. – less

Not a bad place to work
IT Tech Support (Current Employee), Las Vegas, NV – April 24, 2013
Pros: stable work environment, excellent resources, great co-workers.
Cons: management turnover, attendance point system.
All in all working for Amazon.com is an experience. To be honest, this is a review of working in a fulfillment center, much different than working for the corporation itself. Management at my site had a very high turnover rate, so there was not a lot of stability there, although the site itself is very stable. I have very many great co-workers that – more... I enjoy working with. Typically my day consists of troubleshooting computer issues, mainly Windows issues but sometimes hardware based, and fixing printer problems. We use a ticketing system here which tracks all of our issues and time. Most enjoyable part of working here is fixing computers and solving Windows issues, as well as building and working with servers. Least enjoyable would probably be the attendance point system utilized. – less

Great entry level compensation and full benefits including bonuses and stock options, poor job security.
Tier 1 Warehouse Associate (Current Employee), Lebanon, TN – April 18, 2013
Pros: good pay, great benefits.
Cons: very high production rates
Starting pay at 11-11.50 with monthly bonuses of 60-$100 and a yearly stock bonus of about $2000. Great benefits and good entry level pay, however the production rates are extremely demanding meaning this isn't the best place for job security.

Friendly but tedious.
Associate (Former Employee), Coffeyville, KS – March 5, 2013
Pros: friendly staff.
Cons: tough hours. dirty environment
The staff was nice and friendly. The work wasn't difficult. There is room to learn and perform other tasks. Safety is a top priority. The worst part for me was that I had to drive about an hour and a half to get there. On top of that, working holidays is sometimes a requirement. Peak, or Christmas time, can also be slightly hectic.

Fun and Healthy place to work!
Problem solver, Level 3 Receiver, Stower (Current Employee), Chester, VA – February 25, 2013
Pros: pto, great benefits, love the problem solver concept in every dept, even hr, great people all have same goals.
Cons: sometimes when a person is tired and has been working very hard, it can be frustrating to hear that their rate is too low, or that their quality is bad.
My day starts at 4am, the shift i work is 630am to 5pm Wed -Sat. 4-Tens. Mon & Tues are my overtime days, mainly during peak (Christmas) season. We worked 2= 60 hour weeks back to back in November, busy receiving merchandise in my depart called Inbound. twice a day we have stand up meeting in which the mangers go over the days workload while we do stretches. – more... You must be able to squat to work there. The day is fast paced, its all based on the creed "same day shipping", so we must work hard and furious to fulfill our customers desires. Co-workers hav same desire to meet our daily goals, we often compete w/ each other to see who is fastest, Hardest part of my job is when my body hurts because its so tired but i have to keep going, or when i get sick and still try to keep the pace. The most enjoyable part is 3 days off, lol and PTO! We love our PTO, It is a fun and silly place to work too, This past Christmas, Amazon had a local high school marching band come into the FC and literally marched around playing for us. It was so much fun! lol we all loved it! – less

Cons: work - life balance
The 2012 holiday season was my first with Amazon fulfillment. My department and team were working 70 hours a week between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We worked hard, had a great time, and set Amazon Fulfillment Global receiving records.

Set 2012 World Wide Inbound Volume Records for Holiday Season
- Inbound weekly volume record of 5.2 million units – more... processed
- Inbound daily volume record of 958,687 units processed

Numbers are Everything
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee), Murfreesboro, TN – January 25, 2013
Pros: holiday meals, holiday pay, good starting pay, good benefits.
Cons: incredibly physical (depending on department), lack of care in management
In being employed with Amazon, I was randomly selected to be thrown into the Pick department. Here, you use an RF Scanner to pull orders to be sorted, packed, and shipped. Sounds easy enough, and it isn't difficult, but what gets you is the quota.

Whereas in other parts of the warehouse your rate is dependent on what kind of items you are dealing with – more... (small, medium, large, multi, single, etc.), the pick department rate is consistent. Our warehouse was 100 UPH. That means 100 items need to be picked every hour you work.

This is over the course of a 10 hour shift. You do get 2 paid 15 minute breaks and one unpaid 30 minute lunch break. So, technically, while you only pick for 9.5 hours, you're still expected to get 1000 picks for the whole day.

So the person going from one side of the warehouse to the other to get 2 large items is on the same scale as the person in one aisle for an hour picking hundreds of items. And trying to bring this up to management? They could care less. If you can't hit their numbers, you're out. You cant transfer departments unless you're making rate, and all they sum it up to is that there are people making rate every day.

It comes down to luck. There are days I had 1500 picks, and there are days I had 800. But that's irrelevant to the company. They want their numbers. They dont care how many people they have to lose or how many people they'll upset, they just want their numbers. – less

Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History
Site Safety Manager (Current Employee), Carlisle, PA – January 22, 2013
Pros: growth oriented company, with strong financials.
Cons: continuous change, and a pressure cooker of type a personalities.
Great organization with a solid business model. You will work hard, and you will work long hours. But you will work with some of the finest retail/supply chain professionals in the industry. Quality of life will take a hit, but compensation will probably outpower most employers in the same industry. Work environment is very fast paced and always changing. – more... Leadership and management is typically expected to work 10-12 hour days. The peak season, 2 months before Christmas is a unique experience in itself. 7 day weeks and 12 hour days are a minimum. World class systems and process improvement is always in play. If you are up to the challenge, Amazon is a the place to test yourself and your tenacity. – less

Hard peak season easy slow season
Picker (Current Employee), Chester, VA – January 22, 2013
Pros: free lunches gift card compensation and health facility on site
Cons: breaks to short and maybe they push you a little to hard. just a little sometimes.
The job requires a lot of walking and I wouldn't recommend for a heart patient or older person. However overall it is just like any other production company (production rate high, bad qaulity low).
