Terrible
Crew Member (Current Employee), Orlando, FL – May 8, 2013
Pros: free movies, free entrance to disney
Cons: short to sometimes no breaks, schedule changes without notice, management not very welcoming, no training
A Typical day at work would be sweeping and cleaning hallways, theaters, and bathrooms. Some Management made it very hard to like my job by being constantly rude and belittling, instead of being understanding and motivating. I enjoyed most of my co-workers, some don't even bother learning your name. The hardest part of the job was doing my job without – more... proper training. The most enjoyable part was going home. – less

Worst Job I've Had
Film Crew (Former Employee), Danbury, CT – May 7, 2013
Pros: great customers, entertaining workplace
Cons: detached management, long hours, limited breaks, 80% of weekly shifts are very slow
During my brief stay at AMC Entertainment, I got a feel for a very detached management style. Sort of a, "Stand here, do this" approach. Very little accommodation was given as far as work-style or physical demands were concerned. The public were always friendly and almost never hostile as compared to most other jobs of this pay range. Very long shifts – more... and potentially very late work nights. Not beneficial for an outside social life. – less

Exciting place to work.
Crew (Current Employee), Chicago Ridge, Illinois – April 30, 2013
Pros: free movies, flexible schedule, fun place to work
Cons: minimum wage pay
I currently work for AMC as my second job. The schedule can be crazy but you must be open and available without any restrictions 2 out of 3 days (Friday Saturday and Sunday). This is good for students or anyone wanting a PT job. Its not HARD. You are scheduled to do one thing: usher, concession or box office. That's pretty much it. If it a busy night – more... and you're ushering, they may ask you yo help sell or assist those who are selling at the concession, then you're back to your cleaning job. Management is fair and push you to sell AMC Stub cards, its worth the investment for movie goers!

The only hard part about this is learning the screen and finding items to sell your food. It will take about 3 or 4 days to get the hang of it. After that is all cruising from there. My crew members are awesome, no one will leave you to struggle, I've never seen so much team work in a work place.

Free movies and discount on food items (discount is only when your on duty)

Coins: Pay, its minimum wage but its a job and its not easy getting one these days. – less

Pros: free food, drink and movies
Fastpace non stop work. But learned alot like inventory/stock, threading a film of all sorts. Managment not the best at understanding but great orginization and explanning. Co-workers fast and fun to work with. The hardest part was getting big crowds food. And the best part was getting customersevice rep. experiance and free movies.

Manager (Current Employee), CA – April 17, 2013
Pros: free movies, discounted food items, pay for certain postions
Cons: minimum wage type job will give you minimal work by associates
Weekends and holidays are a must. Huge gap from Manager position to Senior Manager and General Manager.

Anything strange can happen on any given day. This is what makes it exciting sometimes.

Learned a lot of leadership attributes I can take to my next employer

Built a lot of relationships outside of work with co workers.

The job is not your "typical" – more... Management job of sitting back and delegating. Sometimes run thin enough to work side by side in the front line. – less

Fun Workplace
Film Crew (Former Employee), Framingham, MA – April 2, 2013
Pros: free movies, discounted food and drinks, flexible hours
Cons: low pay, not much room for advancement
Film Crew consists of working the concession stand, ushering and box office. Personally I loved ushering the most, minus having to clean theaters after the movies, I got to move around and be on my feet which I like. Overall I really enjoyed my time here. Management was pretty good to us. They were all very laid back and nice. When its slow they're – more... usually very lax and as long as you do you're job, they're not strict about much. They're also very flexible with scheduling, I got pretty much all the time off I needed whenever I needed it and you could basically make your own work schedule. Weekdays are very slow, weekend nights and holidays are extremely busy. Most summer days were slow unless it was raining. Rude customers were probably the worst part about the job but that's with any. Slow days are really slow and busy days are really busy. If its a slow day/night, college kids or high school kids can ever get homework done. Overall its a very simple and easy job if you do it right and can be a very enjoyable experience. – less

Seems fun but not so much
Crew Member (Current Employee), Alexandria, VA – March 25, 2013
Pros: free movies, flexible hours
Cons: low pay, really slow on weekdays
Working at a movie theater sounds fun. I mean free movies? Flexible hours? What more could you ask for? Well a lot. First off the pay is minimum wage so don't expect to make a living off this job. The perks of free movies is always good but for me movies aren't that entertaining so that perk wasn't really big for me. The other co-workers are standable. – more... Very diverse array of personalities. Some have attitudes and treat you like you don't exist. Especially when you're the new guy. Some people are very inviting and love to help you. All the managers are young around 18-25 so they're not too strict which is a good and bad thing. Good because you don't get punished for the small stuff but when the general manager or one of the more strict managers comes around you think what you're doing is ok then you get in trouble. Work is really slow on weekdays. Like REALLY slow. Then on Friday night and Saturday all hell break loose. It's like a frenzy no matter what you're working that night. All in all this is a good first job for a high school kid but for those in college looking for more than enough to pay a cell phone bill and car insurance, look elsewhere. – less

productive workplace
Theater Crew (Former Employee), Ave, 99 – March 20, 2013
Basically a normal day at work, uniform on straight to it. I learned to be patient and have a good connection with people. The management was good. My co workers were always on task most of the time. The hardest part was tackling the long lines. The most enjoyable part of my job was satisfying the guest.

It totally sucks to work here now
Server (Current Employee), marina del rey ca – March 7, 2013
Pros: free movies drinks and food
Cons: favoritism and no breaks sometimes
When it first opened it was fun and a lot to learn and we all learned and fast it is the first DIT in California but the favoritism is so not cool with them. The management team and all of them foh and boh have their picks and favorites like hours for instant if the movie theater is cutting back then why are shifts being scheduled with some people having – more... 2, 3 days and some 5 not fair and now a lot of people can work multiple stations, breaks are too short and be lucky if you get one sometimes and when you ask for one its a problem like your asking for something else it's very unfair how they do things sometimes but its okay I am almost out of there time to work somewhere where I can truly use my management skills because its one manager there she knows absolutely nothing and think she does she cant even get the schedule out on time every week – less

Not a job for anyone with self-respect
I work here. (Current Employee), Machesney Park, Il – February 25, 2013
Pros: flexible schedule, free movies
Cons: poor management, lousy pay
My location is a poorly managed building. The management at my location does not support each other on anything; All of the managers play favorites, which takes its toll on the entire staff; and it is not uncommon for some employees to go 3+ years without a raise, while staff members of equal tenure and production get a raise every 6 months.

The staffing – more... levels have been cut since AMC acquired Kerasotes theatres, so there are fewer associates scheduled during our busy sets. Our response to this is having to reposition staff, despite the fact they're already undermanned in their own area.

AMC also does not offer holiday pay or bonuses to anyone but the managers. So you will be one of 4 people scheduled to work 8-5 on Christmas day (one of our busiest days of the year), and you will not be paid any more for it. AMC also does not offer paid time off to anyone but the managers.

While you observe all this, AMC will do nothing but advertise themselves as the best in the theatre industry. They will even have semi-annual meetings which start off along the lines of, "We are the best in class. Do you know what makes us the best in class? Blah blah blah," That's pretty much what the training classes will be like: several hours of a manager regurgitating material handed down to them by a narciscist.

Like the headline says, if you have any self respect, don't apply for this company. You will be overworked, you will be underappreciated, and you will probably not have much potential for advancement or higher pay. Apply with any other company; stay away from this one. – less

It's a great first job because it'll make everything else look good in comparison
Film Crew (Former Employee), AR – February 18, 2013
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything
Terrible place to work, pay is minimum wage and stays at that unless you work there for 2+ years, then you might get a $0.35 pay raise. Management is utterly useless and will blame you for their own screw-ups. Doing your job correctly here isn't based on the corporate handbook, it's based on the extent of what the managers feel like doing. "Someone – more... stole a movie? Don't kick them out, then we'll permanently lose a customer!" – less

Had to quit to get away from harassment from the GM
Film Crew (Former Employee), New York, NY – February 12, 2013
Pros: free movies
Cons: everything.
Highly unprofessional. Constant Harassment from management. Terrible Scheduling is last minute and will take up your life. You will be scheduled for closing one night and then opening the following day. High turnover rates cause uneasy feelings between co-workers. Nothing is worth the constant harassment and inexistent pay AMC gives you.
