Great People
Senior Administrative Assistant (Former Employee), Durham, NC – May 16, 2013
Pros: surrounded by supportive people
Cons: the larger we grew, the less "personal" everything became.
No typical day as every day had its own challenges. Wore many hats but that's what made it fun to go to work each day.

Good job for solidifying the idea to get an education
Pipefitter Helper (Former Employee), Clyattville, GA – April 22, 2013
Pros: good real-world exposure
Cons: georgia summer
Days started at 7:00, when the crew would sign a safety sheet and receive a safety briefing. After that, the work would begin and carry on until the 9:30 break. Work would resume again at about 9:45, and carry on until noon, when everyone would break for lunch. At 12:30, work would resume again and go until the 3:00 break, resuming again at 3:15, and – more... ending at 5:30.
My job as a Helper would be to run around running messages, getting tools, standing hole watch, rigging pipe, cleaning the job sites up, and basically anything else that needed to get done that didn't require specialized training.
I would frequently practice welding on my lunch breaks.
My coworkers were a very industrious group, earning their pay. Management was always in the loop with what the other foremen and managers were doing. – less

A company that was sometimes difficult to work for..
Senior Project Scientist (Former Employee), Asheville, NC – April 11, 2013
Pros: access to large industry clients
Cons: minimal raise in five years even though very good evaluations
This company as formerly MACTEC was corporate driven with individual offices functioning as cost centers--sometimes having to compete among one-another and rarely working well together.
The company may have broadened itself to include too many services.
The positive side to this was that clients using traditional engineering services were more accessible – more... and could sometimes be swayed into using niche services such as environmental permitting and stream restoration as needed.
This segway provided various large project opportunities however these projects were often managed and, or budgeted by non-natural resources professionals. Clients may have been promised cost that were way too low, for example, then the buck was passed to technical managers and specialist tasked to figure out a way to make it work within budget..
Co-workers were friendly but it was a very 9 to 5 type atmosphere with multiple commodity type engineers--whom did similar projects over and over again.
As a niched professional it was especially difficult to move up the ladder in this company. A company more accustomed to traditional engineering and the associated professional growth in that sector.
Enjoyed traveling and working on the occasional well budgeted, large industry project..
note that company may have improved since merging with AMEC in which case I would certainly consider working for AMEC.. – less

Millwright (Former Employee), Tucker, GA – April 3, 2013
Pros: good pay
Cons: job ended
started in the morning with safety meeting and the days task. signed jsa and went to work. Management was very fair with all employees. All co-workers i had was great. Hardest part of job was converting metric to standard units and deciphering the correct spot between 3 different blueprints. most enjoyable part of job was the schedule and how close to – more... home it was – less

I am a part of a great team and AMEC is a large company that can provide a lot of growth potential to it's employees.
SR Accounting Administrator (Current Employee), Alpharetta, GA – March 23, 2013
We start the day by prioritizing our work load. Each day is different so we look at everybody's volume and from that I decide what I need to do first and then for the rest of the day. The cash application is the most important so I make sure I take the time I need to apply it correctly. Responding to our customers (both our offices and our clients) – more... is important so I make sure I find the time to respond to everyone within a reasonable time frame either with a solution or to let them know I am working on their issue. Some of my co-workers are easy to work with and some are not. We do, however, all try to work together so that we have a good environment and the job gets done. – less

Great workplace and coworkers.
Safety Coordinator (Former Employee), Crossett, AR – March 15, 2013
I leanrned that when managers are willing to be hands on to teach people learn better. Coworkers are great with this company. The only hard part for me is the layoffs that comes with construction jobs.

General Civil Engineering consulting firm with background in mining
Project Engineer (Former Employee), Lakeland, FL – March 14, 2013
My company was previously known as BCI Engineers & Scientists, Inc until it was acquired by AMEC Environment & Infrastructure in 2011. I spent almost 13 years there until I was laid off in 2012. Good, stable work environment with many opportunities for advancement and career development.

Interesting projects, not great management
environmental scientist (Former Employee), Westford, MA – November 27, 2012
Pros: interesting projects
Cons: corporate culture is stifling
While the projects that I worked on were very interesting and I did keep busy which was a plus, the corporate culture there made it a very difficult work environment.

Surveyor/Civil Field Engineer (Former Employee), Six total projects – October 13, 2012
Pros: safety and scheduled breaks
Cons: none really
I worked for Amec for a long time and believe the advancement is there as well as great management. I didn't appreciate the dedication they had for safety until I worked for other companies. It truly comes first with Amec and they go to great lengths and expenses to ensure your safety which is something that typically goes out the window with other – more... companies when production is hindered. – less
