Great Place to Work
General Office Clerk (Former Employee), Richland, WAJune 22, 2014
Pros: lunches with co - workers
Cons: budget cuts
Most everyone got along with each other, and those who did not were at least professional with each other. We were allowed full hour lunch breaks. My most enjoyable part of the job was the people I worked with, they treated my like I was a important part of something. I would say the hardest part of it was telling myself that I deserved it.

Great working environment, management are hard working people who get the job done, but also care about their employees. The hardest part of the job is working in different areas of the country and weather conditions. Pay & benefits are great.

Health & Safety Manager (Former Employee), Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti AfricaApril 28, 2014
Pros: amec provides me food allowance and own service car.
Cons: amec provides me health insurance.
Working with AMEC is such a good experience for me, we had a Turkish Company which is our sub-contractor and everyday interest me to work with them as they have been working regardless of their own safety. But I always there for them to foresee and provide them knowledge on safety. How will carried out each work activity throughout the project.

Cost Estimator/ Cost Engineer (MEP) (Former Employee), Dubai, UAEApril 27, 2014
This is a global company that deals with oil and gas, petrochemical engineering, procurement and management projects. I was part of the project controls department and responsible for the cost control and cost estimating of the FEED phase. The organization consist of various nationalities from UK, India, local Arab and from Philippines. The hardest – more... part of the job was the location of the project. The most enjoyable part was the interaction and project progress meeting. I had to deal with every challenge and had to think sustainably. – less

Power & Process dark ages
Instrument Controls (Current Employee), Tucker, GAApril 13, 2014
Pros: pay
Cons: not a career company
This company offers o.k. comparable salary but that is about all that it is competitive in.
-management new and very inexperienced managing
-very poor management selection in the org structure
-executives out of touch with the worker bees & departments
-not a leader in any market segment
-gross inefficiencies and senseless spending of clients $$
-changing – more... to weaker benefits package so no longer an attractive benefits package
-too many relatives working within same location
-technology behind
-no advancement potential
-no real understanding of future growth and strategy

For a temporary job - use them as they will use you.
For a career your better off seeking opportunity with their competitors. – less

Nice organized workplace
Electrician Helper (Former Employee), Indianapolis, INJanuary 31, 2014
Pros: good work ethic
A typical work day consist of a 12 hour shift in the solar field. I have learned how to make a complete circut the correct way, how to speak a different language, grounding combiner boxes underground. The management was very strict they did not take drama in the work place and did not want to bring personal issues to the workplace whenever you came – more... on the job site you needed a clear head to focus. The co-workers were friendly and we were like a big family. The hardest part of the job was cleaning out the mud and water in trenches to ground and pull cables. The most enjoyable part of the job was to work with our co-workers together. – less

AMEC is an excellent place to work
Senior Geologist (Current Employee), Bothell, WAJanuary 21, 2014
Pros: no "shark attack" office politics, good benefits.
Cons: lack of advancement and pay increases.
AMEC is a multi-national geotechnical, environmental, and engineering firm. The staff is professional, friendly, and caring. The staff is free of the back-stabbing climb-on-your-shoulders office politics that I saw at most of the firms where I've worked. Management is genuinely supportive and encouraging. Being a multi-national, they also search for – more... work opportunities in other areas if the local market drops. I worked in Northern Alberta for a couple of years, based out of the local office for example.

The only cons would be a slow advancement rate, and specialization. I worked in the geotechnical division only, although I have experience in environmental work. During my time as a full time employee (five years) I had very little change to my duties. My pay didn't change significantly either. I had earned a certificate in project management, but they couldn't credit me for it because they had their own in-house training system. – less

Engineering Tech/Cad Lead (Current Employee), Oakland, Ca.January 10, 2014
Working at AMEC was breathe of fresh air in terms of the work life balance and the general culture around the office. There are many very bright people working here that are more than willing to share what they know but are also very open to suggestions. The management style i encountered was very hands off but also readily supportive when needed. This – more... works great for me. – less
