Workplace with awesome co-workers and benefits
Illustration Analyst (Former Employee), Houston, TXFebruary 25, 2014
Pros: 2-3 weeks of vacation the first year of employment
Cons: excellent training
A typical work day would start out with Illustration request from our policy holders checking how their policies are performing over the last policy year. This information would be provided via e-mail, mail or over the phone. My co-workers and I worked under minimum supervision.
The hardest part of the job is helping our policy holders understand the – more... type of insurance that;s been purchased and how it works. Although this is the hardest part of the job, it is he most enjoyable part. – less

Productive and fun place to work
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee), Houston, TXSeptember 18, 2012
Pros: training, paid time off coupons, movie passes, lunch coupons, and bonuses
Cons: health benefits
A typical day at work is being on time. Sign into your system and various applications to retrieve information from to be able to assist your callers. Review all emails sent to make sure you are current with any updates on policies and procedures. I learned how to analyze and process annuities contract request, and process surrenders and partial withdrawals – more... as well as policy updates ex. address change, change of ownership, beneficiary changes etc. I appreciate my management staff they are consistent in answering question and making sure the working environment remained positive and professional. My co-workers are helpful and knowledgeable about the various products that are available to our customers. The hardest part of the job to me was the checks that were mailed out some of the clients wanted to have their checks on the same day even with explaining the process it was sometimes still not acceptable to the policy owner or a beneficiary of the policy. The most enjoyable part of work was interacting with my co-workers and knowing we all had the same goal in mind. Customer Satisfaction. – less

American General Financial Group was a Houston based company that focused on its employees and customers, always trying to do what was right.
Team Leader, Business Analyst (Former Employee), Houston, TXApril 8, 2012
Pros: exceptional mid-senior management team, sense of loyalty to the company, compensation was based on performance
Cons: market changes resulting in the sale to aig, outsourcing, change in compensation
American General was so widely known for its impeccable treatment of the employees that you would often find multiple generations of employees working at the organization. American General's primary focus was the employees and customers satisfaction and wellbeing.

Management at American General had vision and values, they were focused on constantly – more... including employees in discussions on how to improve functions, held yearly company picnics and best of al, rewarded employees on their ability to perform a job.

The most enjoyable part of my job was being able to meet so many people who were inspired by the organization, who enjoyed their positions and who had recommended and had bothers, sisters, children and cousins because of this pride and love for the company and the management team.

Co-workers were more like friends. They were always willing to assist you with your projects when they could, the had a respect for the other workers around them and the had positive attitudes. – less
