It's only a convention

It's a unique experience everyone should try at least once. You learn where other scientists are with respect to certain projects.
Pros
Get to meet numerous scientists and critique differing goals
Cons
uncooperative people out to steal ideas for their own gain!

Do NOT Work Here
Not willing to say (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCOctober 13, 2014
AGU affords no work/life balance and not nearly enough compensation to make up for the loss of your personal life. Management is unresponsive and unwilling to make a change. The organization has had to work with an outside consultant for almost two years because the work culture is so bad and everyone distrusts upper management.

It's not the sort of place you can have a future.
