American Girl was a fun and busy
Hair Doll Stylist (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – June 18, 2013
Pros: getting cudos for outstanding work
Cons: fif-teen minute brake
A typical day at American Girl would be busy all the time booking appointments and styling up a doll . The most challenging thing I had to learn was how to make a fish braid on a doll. Even though it took me about three work days I managed to learn how to make a french braid. The most thing that i enjoyed about working at American Girl was interacting – more... with all the customers. – less

A Day at American Girl
Sales Associate/Cashier (Former Employee), Atlanta,GA – June 5, 2013
Pros: pay is above minimum wage, incentives
Cons: short breaks, prolong standing
Clock in, Check the schedule to see which area you will be working in, go to designated area, straighten items, walk around, continue to straighten items, etc..
Hardest part is the short break, the long standing times, pretending to keep busy when you have nothing else to do..
Enjoyable part is meeting new people everyday
I learned a different cashiering – more... system, that was pretty much it..
Co-workers- everyone was cool, just trying to make ends meet at home,
Management was a bit overbearing sometimes.. – less

fun and learning experience
Character Sales (Former Employee), Bloomington, MN – May 29, 2013
We had a routine before store opens we had morning meetings where we discuss things and learned new products and made goals for the day. I learned that doing your job the best you can and enjoying what you do will make the job feel spectacular. The management was well put together and they encouraged me and others. For the most part everyone was positive. – more... At first the hardest part to me was sending the dolls to the doll hospital. It was a little confusing in the beginning. The most enjoyable part to me was seeing the little girls faces when they were in the store. – less

Never again
Technical support (Former Employee), Middleton – April 13, 2013
Pros: salary, benefits
Cons: everything
Stifling, dreary--everything you'd hope a toy company wouldn't be. How do worn out employees make good toys, books, and products? They don't. Terrible management and leadership have left everyone with low morale and no enthusiasm. Never spoke to one other employee who was happy. There is no advancement even to make it worth staying.
Benefits are decent, – more... but not worth trading your happiness for. One employee referred to that as golden handcuffs.
Worse than going to a jail cell daily. – less

Im a girl, its a doll store.
Stylist (Former Employee), Overland Park, KS – February 21, 2013
Pros: a great place to work & shop
Cons: you always should smile so your position won't be " seasonal"
I only worked here for a "seasonal" position but I feel that was only because one of the managers felt as if I didn't smile enough and tried to suspend me until I called corporate and told them about the issue & then they decided that my position was seasonal. My co workers were fun, it was a lot of women but no drama. There was no hard part about the – more... job, and as I said before I'm a girl that was working in a doll store, combing doll hair.... what wouldn't be fun about that. – less

organized retail doll store
Sales Associate/ Cashier (Former Employee), New York, NY – January 20, 2013
Pros: for good work employees got coins for the vending machines at work
Cons: short breaks non busy days it was slow and boring
working at american girl made me gain lots more confidence in myself because i interacted with children from all over the world also their parents. i learned to smile even if i was in a bad mood but being at americal girl made me feel better knowing i was helping that special little girl find her right doll was a wonderful expericence co workers and – more... manager where wonderful happy people. the hardest part of the job was being surrounded in a fast pace enivironment where there was loud talking and screaming also very crowed but that did not stop me from making a little girl magical moment happen. the most enjoyable part was seeing little girls come dressed in like their dolls and also making everyone smile knowing that i helped them. – less

It is a job that you do not hesitate to go every day
Merchandise Handler (Former Employee), Natick, MA – January 16, 2013
Pros: best place i worked ever
Everyone nice since you step in the store, from co workers to store manager, always resolve problems base on the rules and situation, never accuse you until they are totally sure and even there they are really polite and respectfull.

the hardest part of the job is that you have to leave until the next day.
the most enjoyable part of the job, is that – more... they treat you as a family. – less
