If you are an ethical person, this is NOT the place for you to work
Engineer (Former Employee) –  Sidney NYJune 24, 2016
Amphenol Aerospace Management puts profits before everything, including the customers and the employees. Amphenol Aerospace management will ship defective product and not even consider the repercussions, not do they care. Amphenol Aerospace management does not care about anyone or anything. Employees are forced to follow the nonethical standards set by the executive management, or they are forced out the door. Amphenol Aerospace management uses the China and Mexico facilities as leverage to get what they want (ship defective product). If you do not give them what they want they send your job to Mexico or China and then they get what they want, and you find yourself unemployed. If you are an ethical person who insists on doing he right thing, Amphenol Aerospace is DEFINITELY NOT the place for you to work.

The employees in Sidney are great people and the union workers are exceptional workers. Unfortunately for the employees, the management does not care about anything. I am not even sure the facilities management knows they make electrical connectors, they are that clueless.
Pros
The employees are great people and easy to work with
Cons
Pay raises are typically 0.5% and 1.5 % at the absolute most, Benefits have been getting cut for years

Productive and a wonderful place to work at.
Continuous Improvement Engineer (Former Employee) –  Sidney, NYJanuary 19, 2017
A typical days work included a daily report of how progress was made on production from a robot. Improved and added parts for a robot to product more parts for production. Helped with coworkers with smaller projects and helped solve problems with in the company.
I learned to communicate with my coworkers in the company and how to work with robots and machines.
The management were very friendly, helpful, and willing to make your stay with the company very enjoyable.
The hardest part of the job was to keep track of meetings.
The most enjoyable part of the job was be be able to be a person to help solved problems and get things done within the company.
Pros
Very reasonable people, helpful. Many opportunities.
Cons
A little in the middle of no where

Troubled division that is not headed in positive direction
Product Marketing Manager (Former Employee) –  Sidney, NYJuly 20, 2015
Overall the Amphenol Corporation has been met with tremendous success. This particular $250M division Amphenol Aerospace located in a remote location in upstate NY has not fared well with the downturn in defense spending / new programs and commoditization of its MIL-STD-38999 circular connector products from numerous competitors. This division has an archaic business model that is ran on a cycle of 30 days with no forward planning or thinking to address the underlying issues that are affecting its performance.

There is a large focus and a lot talk about "new products" to replace the languishing commodity product, but it is mostly all over hyped and over promoted with very little to show for it and very little execution. So the battle is being lost. With high levels of management dysfunction, disorganized factories, and shipping product between NY and Mexico it is a recipe for a slow gradual decline. Over the past 5-10 years hundreds of manufacturing jobs and equipment have been moved to Mexico from this location resulting in product cost improvements to remain competitive in the market but have caused massive quality, delivery, and coordination issues that are causing this division to lose its place in the market regardless of price being offered to direct customers or distributors.

All in all unless you absolutely need a job and need to live or want to commute to Sidney NY you should avoid this organization at all costs. A pro is that there is a brand new facility and building to work in but don't be roped in by that, you will find that it is demoralizing less
more... than 50% populated with empty spots all around. It is a highly disorganized and fractured company with little upward mobility and hardly any signs of intelligent life forms. Layoffs are a regular occurrence.

The benefits are the bare minimum basic that can be offered. Employees are expected to do everything they can to save this division and maintain high sales numbers without any rewards other than getting to keep your job.
  less
Pros
Minimal oversight on business travel, can take advantage of chaos
Cons
No perks what so ever, it is every person for themselves, everything is done manually and inefficiently

Intern: Good working hours, plenty of overtime, decent pay
Environmental Engineering Intern (Former Employee) –  Sidney, NYMarch 3, 2015
Arrived at 7:30 in the morning and would put in a good 8 hour day. with option to perform overtime if needed. Would typically put in 45-48 hours a week.

Primary duty was to create an easy to use system that would catalog the compositions of product and compare to European environmental regulations.

Secondary duty was to use drafting skills to plot exhaust stacks for NY State environmental emissions license, and plan new pipelines for acid lines in the plating plant.

Worked directly underneath an environmental engineer with several other interns.
Pros
Good hours, freedom of working on project
Cons
long hours in front of computer and using old inventory systems

Diverse work but stressful
Test Engineer (Former Employee) –  Sidney, NYJune 26, 2015
I was a test engineer, meaning I worked both in quality and in R&D. I tested core products to pass/fail specifications, qualified new products for sales and marketing, and analyzed new designs for engineering.

I learned a lot about the aerospace industry as well as military and global test specifications.

Low level managers had their hearts in the right place, but unfortunately upper management was run by people who only looked at numbers and didn't fully understand how to do the jobs they were managing.

Because of this, the work environment was very stressful with lots of tight and somewhat unrealistic/impossible deadlines that required lots of overtime work.

great place to work
CNC Operator (Former Employee) –  Sidney, NYNovember 6, 2015
If you don't get laid off. Great pay especially for the area. The company seems to take care of their employees with safety equipment. Suck part of the job is that the company will lay off 1/2 the factory thru the 1st and 2nd quarter and fall way behind in production. Then call staff back in and hire more thru 3rd and 4th quarter and that's if you are lucky to get a call back that year. I would work there again though.
Pros
great pay
Cons
lay offs even when you are told that there won't be any layoffs that year.

Beware
Plating Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Sidney, NYJanuary 27, 2015
You would find a union shop with very good talented hard workers. The problem is on the management side. You would be reporting to a glorified plater that doesn't know what a ion is. He is very easily threatened by anyone that knows more than he does. If you threaten him his MO is to cut your throat and throw you out the back door. Sidney is a small town locate far from any shopping or entertainment. There is a lot of unemployment and street drugs. Please use caution if you are considering this position.
Pros
Good workers
Cons
Terrible management

Amphenol is a great place to work, minus the job security. The pay is great, and there are plenty of opportunities to make new friends while getting the job done.

Assembler/Production (Former Employee) –  Sidney, NYMarch 3, 2015
A typical day at work consisted of cleaning, and building parts for different kinds of aircraft. The thing I learned most during my time at Amphenol was math. My mathematics skills and blueprint reading skills were enhanced at a massive degree. My co-workers were very friendly and very dedicated to what they were doing. The hardest part about this job was the shift schedule, 3 pm - 11:30 pm. The most enjoyable part of this job was that I was constantly busy and learning new things.
Pros
Lots of overtime on the weekends.
Cons
Laid off before 90 day probation was up.

I do not wish to comment. I will talk to specific employers is asked. I need to fill in words here as required. I need 40 words. This is just filler. Please disregard. I need to keep writing, which seems a little silly. Blah blah blah. This is the last sentence.
