About AnchorFree
AnchorFree was founded in late 2003 by Silicon Valley based entrepreneurs David Gorodyansky and Eugene Malobrodsky. Three things set apart the AnchorFree team: brilliance, innovation, and rock-solid execution.
AnchorFree's initial objective was to give consumers an affordable and widespread way to access the Internet outside of their home and office. – more... At that point, wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) access was very expensive and fragmented. In May of 2004, AnchorFree's team of problem solvers transformed downtown Palo Alto, California in to one of the first Wi-Fi Hot Zones in America. Locals and visitors were equiped with the freedom to access the Internet anywhere in downtown Palo Alto (both indoors and outdoors).
In 2005, building on the progress in Palo Alto, AnchorFree blanketed five popular commercial districts of San Francisco with free Wi-Fi access. When the company announced that it had built twin wireless Hot Zones in the Marina area, the Mayor weighed in, "We are pleased to support the efforts of AnchorFree to bring all citizens access to free wireless broadband services," said Mayor Gavin Newsom. "This new service will certainly benefit citizens, visitors and businesses on Chestnut and Union Streets and further encourage technology innovation in San Francisco." Several months later, David Gorodyansky and Eugene Malobrodsky were invited to serve on the Technology Expert Council for Mayor Gavin Newsom.
In January of 2006, AnchorFree continued its vision with the acquisition of MetroFreeFi.com, the largest directory of free wi-fi hotspots. Together with the relationships MetroFreeFi.com has built with hotspots since 2003, AnchorFree is aggresively building the largest network of free wi-fi hotspots in the world.
Numerous Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Wi-Fi service partners are now positioned with AnchorFree to benefit from its successful revenue model. The AnchorFree team views such relationships as another way to provide consumers affordable and widespread Internet access. The company is currently persuing its next ambitious objective: to provide consumers with free and relevent information.
