Anthony Doors can shed a little light on things that are pretty cool. The company makes glass refrigerator/freezer doors, display case doors, shelving, mounts, and lighting systems, and display equipment for commercial refrigeration and merchandising end-use. Anthony Doors also offers custom glass units, replacement parts, and installation manuals, and it manufactures custom-fabricated curved/bent glass used in display cases. The company primarily caters to grocery stores, convenience stores, and specialty retailers. Besides the US, it has offices in Canada, China, and Italy. Founded in 1958 as Anthony's Refrigerations Service Company, the company was sold to Dover Corporation in 2012.
Before the acquisition by Dover for $602.5 million, Anthony Doors was owned by various private equity firms. From 2004 until mid-2011, it was owned by Los-Angeles based Aurora Capital Group. It was then sold to New-York based Avista Capital Partners in mid-2011.
The company has six offices in the US located in California, Florida, Georgia, and Iowa. Internationally it has three offices in Canada, China, and Italy. Through this network it is able to serve the commercial refrigeration markets in Asia, Europe, and North and South America.
Anthony Doors is now part of the Refrigeration and Industrial platform of Dover's Engineered Systems segment. Dover's plans for Anthony's growth trajectory involve international expansion, especially as the world continues the trend toward energy conservation and the demand for energy efficient glass products grows. (Anthony boasts energy savings of up to 70% by enclosing open refrigerator and freezer cases with its Anthony Retrofit doors and Anthony Optimax Pro LED lighting systems.)
Mergers and Acquisitions
Anthony has also grown through acquisitions that build its lineup, manufacturing muscle, and market reach. In 2012 Anthony obtained BIG Services, an installation services provider catering to North American retailers in 30 states. Building on its replacement parts business, the company acquired both Trausch Industries and Vos Food Store Equipment in 2010. Key international additions include VAL, an Italian maker of curved glass and Shanghai-based ATG, the maker of Flying Glass branded insulated glass doors.
Anthony continued to expand its global footprint in late 2010 by signing a deal with Glacier, a part of South Africa-based Universal Industries. The agreement allows Glacier to make and market Anthony glass refrigerator/freezer doors in Africa and India. – less
