The Senior System Engineer (VMWare & Storage) is responsible for the administration and operation of the firm’s VMware and Storage Infrastructure. Candidate must be a self-starter, and demonstrated experience managing projects to completion. Candidate must be self-motivated and well organized, and must have strong communications skills. This position works very closely with the AVP of Delivery Services and Senior Systems Support Specialists of the infrastructure and production servers.
Assist the Systems Architect with the design, implementation and ongoing support of virtualization/SAN projects as well as data center operations
Act as technical project manager for major initiatives, changes and product deployments
Demonstrate advanced analytical skills to identify issue root cause and to maintain maximum uptime and service availability
Configure, manage, and maintain physical and virtual infrastructures
Participate in an off hours on-call rotation
Preparation and maintenance of IT Systems documentation and guidelines.
Designing, planning, and implementation of enterprise storage platform including: monitoring, performance and growth management of both DAS and SAN systems.
Security level assessment for all IT Systems and the information stored therein.
Backup and Restore processes, procedures and guidelines.
Overseeing the data center processes and procedures supporting all IT Systems.
In particular the successful candidate will:
Develop, coordinate, and implement VMWare-based solutions related to evolving project functional requirements and production-related challenges in data collections, management, and exploitation;
Support the deployment of highly available and redundant VMware infrastructure (vSphere and vCenter at minimum);
Maintain and support existing VDI virtual desktop infrastructure (Citrix XenDesktop, VMWare View) and construct new templates where necessary (a fundamental understanding of VDI solutions, their deployment requirements and their relative strengths and weaknesses is essential);
Construct and maintain a highly automated deployment and configuration management infrastructure for vSphere hypervisors and individual virtual machines (kick start hypervisor installs, vSphere host profiles);
Make and discuss storage and network optimization recommendations for VMWare hypervisor infrastructure:
Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of tiered storage and storage protocols and their implications on virtualized infrastructure;
Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of physical switching including VMWare hypervisor specific deployment requirements;
Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of virtual switching solutions including DVS and Nexus 1000V, vlan tagging options in vSphere such as VGT, VST and EST, and link aggregation schemes
Work with other system administrators to maintain the Infrastructure:
Participate in on-call and possibly after-hours support rotation; major system upgrades and may include weekend or evening on-site work;
Respond to support calls after-hours/weekends/holidays/shutdowns;
Provide training, troubleshooting, technical advice and direction to other members of the team;
Update system and process documentation and user guides as needed.
ESX/vSphere 5.0/5.5 upgrade, deployment, configuration, and maintenance experience;
vSphere automation experience (kick start scripted install, VSphere Auto-deploy, host profiles);
VDI (Citrix XenDesktop) deployment, configuration and maintenance experience.
Citrix XenDesktop 7.x (XenApp 7.5) deployment, configuration, and maintenance experience.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience supporting a production environment
Four year college degree required
Industry specific training or designation a plus
Expertise that includes: VMware ESX, SAN technology (NetApp, EMC Clariion), data center operations, and enterprise monitoring
Hands-on experience with current Windows server and workstation platforms
Hands-on experience with current virtualization platforms
Strong troubleshooting skills (Hardware & Software)
A basic understanding of routers, firewalls, traffic managers
SAN/NAS experience and troubleshooting (Prefer: HP EVA4400 & NETAPP )
Familiarity with Cisco Nexus data center products and NX-OS;
Familiarity with Microsoft SCCM and PowerShell;
Familiarity with RHEL5/6 and bash/python scripting;
VMware Certified Professional.
vCenter Operations Manager installation, maintenance, and monitoring experience;
VMware Capacity Planner;
Familiarity with EMC VNX, VMAX;
Familiarity with vCOPS;
Familiarity with Legato
