Visit assigned nursing homes and observe and talk to those living there.
You are the mediator between the residents and the nursing home staff and administration.
Enjoyable part of job is helping the nursing home residents and being a watchdog for them.
The toughest part of the job is dealing with an issue where a resident has been harmed physically or mentally.
Pros
Volunteering
Cons
When a nursing home resident has been neglected.

Basically a government paid maid service. Most clients just need you to come clean for them, do laundry & cook. Really expected it to be more one on one work with clients.

Training (JET)) -Case Assistant (Former Employee) –  St. Joseph, MIMay 5, 2017
The staff of AAA was a great team and worked well together. Not much room for growth with this company. The training provided was top notch and the staff from co-workers to managers always were willing to help when a question arose.

Although the agency is great for the elderly clients they serve the upper management team is not employee friendly. There are a few managers and directors that are kind but overall not a great place to work.

They will work around the schedule you want. It's not always guaranteed hours. Clients could be dropped or have to have other medical care help. Everyone is very nice though.

Social Work Intern (Former Employee) –  Sylva, NCMarch 30, 2017
At the Area Agency on Aging two days are rarely the same. One day you could be sitting at your computer all day doing paperwork or emailing correspondents and the next day you could be out bouncing around nursing homes, performing home visits, or speaking in classrooms about what life is like as you grow older. The work environment was very warming and felt family-like. All in all it was a great experience.
