Troubled Company
Manager (Current Employee) –  Lynchburg, VAAugust 6, 2016
AREVA is struggling through some challenging economic times. French leadership has not allowed much autonomy in the US resulting in a lack of flexibility and responsiveness. Current morale is low. Mgt does not make decisions, but holds others accountable for their failure to decide. Company lacks vision other than to make money.
Pros
Pay, Benefits
Cons
lack of leadership, lack of vision, poor morale, lack of accountability particularly at the top of the company

Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Las Vegas, NVJuly 14, 2016
Hommer Tool was a job shop that produced mold components for companies that had an enormous over flow. the company was family owned and operated and ran the company as such. The employees had to work closely together because each department had a specific function. we got along so well we spent time outside of work as well. at lunch time the employees would enjoy a game of basketball in the parking lot that was designated for exercise.
Pros
different parts to make all the time, employee to employee relationships
Cons
not really any

Security Manager (Former Employee) –  Richland, WAJuly 11, 2016
Very intense employment. I learned a lot about management style and results. I enjoyed working with the group I was in. Working with the NRC was difficult be cause they are always in a change mode. Every time they change their policy we would have to change ours.

AREVA has great benefits and salary, but the nuclear industry is changing and the company has to react to changing priorities of its customers.

Innovations Manager (Former Employee) –  WorldWideFebruary 29, 2016
The company is having a hard to adjusting to current trends in the industry. Not moving in a quick fashion to utilize technology to its advantage to become the leader in energy systems.

Employees within the company are very hard working and professional, but are hindered by management styles.

Good work life balance
Engineer (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCFebruary 18, 2016
Good work life balance, but the company is in bad financial shape, lots of concerns about layoffs...which seem to hit lower level people the hardest. Folks at the top seem to be well paid and well protected.

Lack of opportunity for non-engineers
Professional (Current Employee) –  VirginiaFebruary 6, 2016
Moving up in this company is very difficult unless you know someone. Lip service is giving to "high performers", but that doesn't mean much when it comes time for lay-offs. There is no professional path for non-engineers unless you want to go into a management position which leads to topping out fairly quickly if you are a mid-career professional.

The best part is learning from knowledgeable colleagues. The second best part is learning from knowledgeable colleagues. It is unfortunate that there is no growth in this industry.

Relatively good place to work
Various, up to Financial Analyst IV (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCAugust 10, 2015
Good co-workers, flexible hours as to when you worked your 40 (i.e., 8-5, 7-4, 9-6). In overhead position, difficult to advance to supervisory position, as they kept cutting O/H. Mostly good managers to work for.

Nuclear Fuel Inspector / Crew Lead (Former Employee) –  Lynchburg, VAJuly 29, 2015
Not a bad place to work, and a great location. Traveling is required so that is the only downfall. It takes away from the time with your family.

The company's future is bleak at best. Management is only concerned with financials and their losing focus on their assets.

Admin Assistant (Former Employee) –  Lynchburg, VAMarch 21, 2015
I learned a lot with the help of supportive admins. I did the normal duties such as faxing, scanning, copying, writing in travel expenses, compliance matrix for a multimillion dollar proposal that passed. The management was ok, it was incredibly competitive and that made it more difficult to advance because people who had been there for a long time were determined to push anyone out of their way to make it to the top. I always learned to work together and advance together, so being pushed down to the very bottom, wasn't the best feeling, especially since I worked really hard and was an asset for the company. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting new people and gaining contacts for references for jobs.
Pros
gaining experience, meeting new contacts

Nuclear Manufacture/warehouse (Former Employee) –  Richland, WADecember 16, 2014
Had a great time at this job. I traveled, which i enjoy and met many different people. I learned various things about the energy market and a lot about the nuclear business. I found the nuclear safety to be very successful yet unnerving. management was easy and nice to deal with, but not very family oriented.
