Great place to work, wonderful people to work for and with.
Office Coordinator (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MDNovember 5, 2014
Pros: interaction with co-workers and residents.
Cons: loss of residents due to death, relocating, etc.
I have a terrific boss and enjoy working with all the people in my department and other departments as well.
I spend a lot of time answering the phone, assisting residents and employees with issues that arise, do a lot of independent problem solving. I do a lot of troubleshooting.
I keep track of department time and do payroll for my department.
I do – more... AP, create reports in Excel, take meeting minutes, coordinate and participate in campus events, write correspondence, attend staff meetings. I am the lead person for our work order system, Insite, and assist users with issues that arise. – less

Licensed practical Nurse (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MDOctober 20, 2014
Pros: free coffee and tea; and free lunch tickets for birthdays.
Cons: no flexible vacations
Get report from the outgoing nurse and give report to nursing assistants and start giving patient care.
Have learned to be detailed oriented.
There is a friendly atmosphere.
The hardest part of the job is when there are more than one admissions from the hospital into my unit.
The enjoyable part of my job is the availability of equipment and tools to – more... work with. – less

productive and fun place to work with activety areas for staff.
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (Former Employee), Gaithersburg, MDSeptember 9, 2014
Pros: activety areas for staff to relax
Cons: too many patient ratio per staff sometimes.
Everybody busy with their work. I learned more of customer service and patient advocacy. Management was with excellent leadership and with respect to patients and staff. Co-workers played team work most of the time to accomplish tasks. The hardest part of the job was shortage of staff. The most enjoyable part of the job was end of year parties and bonuses.

Pros: meeting new people and making strong connections
Cons: long days away from family

Love my coworkers and the residents
Making 85 connected phone calls a week can be boring
but I do enjoy the tours that come from those calls and meeting new people.

Dining Room Attendant (Current Employee), Gaithersburg, MDJuly 11, 2013
Though this job is very fun most of the time, the respect that is given from management to lower employees is RIDICULOUS! The pay is also a JOKE! I feel as though if your not at the top your going to suffer. Be prepared to work long and hard with only a Cares Award to show for it all. People who have dedicated 20 years have been wrongfully fired to – more... make space for friends and other favorites. And if your not on your boss's good side, your toast! – less

Fun place to work
Call Center Operator/Receptionist (Former Employee), Gaithersburg, MDMarch 29, 2013
Pros: easy to find coverage when i needed to swap shifts, friendly coworkers
Cons: working most weekends
Asbury is a fun place to work, you will get to interact with the residents on a daily basis. Associates there are easy to get along with and are able to work together without issues. Management in most departments are fair and approachable.Understanding when dealing with delicate issues at hand. I definitely enjoyed the people I worked with as well as – more... other associates I met outside my department, more importantly I really came to care alot about the residents I met in person or over simple conversation over the telephone when helping them any way I could – less

Predictable friendly environment
Waitress (Former Employee), Gaithersburg, MDJuly 19, 2012
Pros: coworkers around the same age, residents are friendly.
Cons: no breaks, no understanding from management, non-flexible hours.
Get to work at 3:30pm and wait for pre-meal to begin. While waiting one talks with other co workers. Once it was over, the dining room is opened and the residents, their friends and family come and wait to be seated for dinner until the dining room closes at 7:30pm. Although the tasks were repetitive and left little room for change, there was much that – more... could be learned just by talking to the residents. With the difference between generations, it is nice to hear stories about their childhood and their lives in comparison to ours. We all were in high school working there, so we were interested. The hardest part would be carrying the trays. They were over packed and supervisors would still expect us to carry them no matter how unstable or heavy they were. – less

great environment to work
Dining Room Server (Former Employee), Gaithersburg, MDApril 30, 2012
Pros: very friendly
Cons: no breaks
The job was really busy, everything had to be done quick and with a smile on. which was the best. I enjoyed working there because i learned how important it is to care of the customer like if they were my family or how i would like my family to be treated. The management was good and very organized i don't have anything to complain. My co workers were – more... very friendly and helped around when needed. The hardest part of the job was serving a table of 40 people but always enjoyed it and the most enjoyable was when our customers leaving with a smile and said they wanted me to help them the next time they came., – less

Dining Room Manager (Former Employee), Gaithersburg, MdMarch 7, 2012
Pros: good hours
Cons: not enough management leway
I liked Asbury and would go back. Had they had an inhouse training course for new managers I believe this would have helped.

The food operation was very much different from all other.

Unstable, non-secure workplace culture.
Retirement Counselor (Former Employee), Gaithersburg, MDNovember 15, 2011
Pros: good senior community
Cons: devalued staff, unprofessional management
Good retirement community but staff undervalued. Liked my daily duties and thought compensation was fair but management has unrealistic expectations. Management enforces a "no job security" culture.
