The Astar Education Institute is an independent non-profit organization designated by the State Department as an Exchange Visitor Program. Our mission is to build relationships necessary to meet the challenges of our globalizing world. For this purpose, we conduct short-term educational and cultural exchanges with Hainan Provincial Service Center for Scholarly Exchange. Through daily activities and interactions, students share the ideas, customs, and culture of their home country with Chinese host families and communities.
We are currently accepting high school students interested in our mission to travel to China for 18 days in July, 2014. Students must have an interest in Chinese culture and language, and must be eager to learn and have an open mind. This exciting opportunity allows students to immerse themselves within local traditions and cultures. Students will stay mostly with a host family so they can further embrace the culture and language.
During the trip, students will
Walk the Great Wall
Visit the Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, and Nanhu Island
See the Imperial Palace and the Ming Dynasty Tombs
Tour the city of Beijing
Visit the Haikou Shishan Volcano Group National Geopark
Travel to Hainan Island
And so much more!
Students must submit an application and application fee of $300 by the end of January. Students must have a valid passport in order to apply for the program. Also, students are responsible for visa costs, which currently are $130. Astar will provide all domestic travel and accommodations free of charge, including admission and event tickets. Astar also has a secured group rate for round-trip airfare that students may choose to use when purchasing airfare tickets.
The goal of this visit is cultural and linguistic immersion. It is a unique opportunity for high school students to spend 18 days learning about the culture and language of this ancient country while gaining invaluable experiences and friendships. Apply today!
