Athleta and management can't separate themselves from their Gap, Inc other brands
sales associate (Former Employee), cherry creek, denver colorado – September 28, 2012
Pros: the customers and their excitement about the new store
Cons: management contradicting their own actions, work/life balance, no voice within the management team/employees.
Management that came in from other Gap inc brands cant adjust to the new environment, culture and training of Athleta. Compensation is horrible, advancement goes to those who have been with the company and that is again, who has been with old navy, gap or banana, which, are all so different then Athleta. As an Athleta buyer, customer for years, I can't – more... believe the management and their idea of work/life balance, and handling of customers. They are an embarrassment to the company and I truly hope moving forward they stop advancing those who hold long standing positions from within the company and start fresh, because athleta is. – less

Fun and learning environment
Retail Sales Associate (Former Employee), Pacific Palisades, CA – September 21, 2012
Pros: free clothing
Cons: short breaks
The job was always a learning experience because I had to deal with all kinds of people daily. The hardest part was learning the inventory and keeping a steady pace with the work place in the beginning, but I learned to handle it. My co workers were mostly cheerful and welcoming, as was the management.

Great concept - still has some work to do in the field
Associate Manager (Current Employee), Burlington, MA – September 17, 2012
Pros: daily inspiration to be better and inspire others
Cons: still struggling with their new developments, positions, expectations, initiaves, etc.
Amazing culture and values - still trying to work out the policies and procedures. They are very inconsistent in their communication and expectations, but they are just venturing into a new area. With time, they will be one of the best companies to work with.

Every day, all employees find new insipration in their work due to the customers they encounter – more... or their coworkers. Coworkers are triathletes, cancer survivors, mothers, friends, yogis... it's amazing. If you don't leave inspired, as a customer or as an employee, at the end of the day, you must have been blocking the experience out. It is amazing and will be very successful. – less

Fantastic, honest, approachable leadership team. Great company ethics and morals.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Philadelphia, PA – August 25, 2012
Pros: flexibility in scheduling, free classes for the community and employees!
Cons: starting salary is difficult to balance as sole source of income.
I am very impressed by how my leadership team runs our location. Open communication is a way of life, and all ideas/suggestions are welcomed, considered, and implemented if they work with what we strive for. Employees feel truly valued, and 'work hard, play hard' (running, cycling, yoga etc...) truly comes to life.

The culture is good, but the work/life balance is rough
Assistant Manager (Current Employee), Houston, TX – August 7, 2012
Pros: great health benefits from day 1, you learn how to run a business
Cons: long long days, hr compliances are intense because it's ran by california code of law.
It's owned by GAP INC so there are some serious corporate rules that need to be followed - but they are trying to compete and be like lululemon with the free classes and fun outreach in the stores. Being the only store in Texas brought a ton of notoriety and high sales; the GM quit and another manager quit in the same week so we have been left to run – more... the store by ourselves; sometimes working 12-14 hour days.
It has been really hard to lead well because we aren't given proper training or structure. It is hard being connected to such a retail brand like the GAP and Banana Republic. – less

Employees are fun, customers are great, and good management
sales associate (Current Employee), San Francisco – November 11, 2011
Pros: snacks, fun events, and great staff
Cons: limited benifits and odd hours
Over all the company is great. The staff is fun and the atmosphere is lively. The only cons are limited benefits and odd hours of work. Besides that, Athleta is a overall great company to work for, the products are great and the management does a great job at keeping both staff and customers contented.
