Supply Chain and Purchasing, Denver, CO - February 16, 2015
A typical day at work starts at 8:00am or 8:30am. Like with most companies owned by Venture Capitalists lower level employees who are on salary for 40 hours per week typically work through lunch with no mandatory breaks and they work until 5:30 or 6:00pm - 5 days per week. The executives typically take long lunches and shorter days than what is required of their underlings. HR promises shorter days on Fridays weekly during the HR interview but this rarely happens. Many projects are assigned and asked for completion on the same day. There is coffee, soda and energy drinks and a snacks provided in the office to fuel the employees through the long days. Even though employees typically put in a 50+ hour week at the office it is company policy to NOT let lower level employees work from home even when there is a snowstorm as a result people have to bring their children to the office if schools shut down for a snow day. The lower level employees are asked to take vacation time to go to a doctors appointment. There is a great sense of comradarie between the lower level employees and most are quite helpful. However, there are a large number of employees who are burnt out and unmotivated because of the huge work load and long hours. The hardest part of the job is trying to learn how to do your job because nobody has the time to teach you and people get frustrated with your on-boarding needs because they are behind on all of their deadlines because of the heavy work load. Atkins underpays people by quite a significant amount compared to other CPG companies and for the Denver market where it has become very expensive for rent and where the cost of living has sky rocketed. As a result, they are beginning to lose quite a few employees -so there are or will be a large number of job openings with Atkins. Atkins does provide a fabulously extravagant holiday party every year but I think most employees would rather be paid more throughout the year than have a great holiday party. Atkins promises a great bonus but they don't deliver on what they promise for the bonus.
