Atlas Energy is seeking an energetic, self-starter with intellectual horsepower to manage their revenue accounting department based near Akron OH. The candidate will likely have a progressive 5-7 year career with a major firm (e.g. KPMG, Price Waterhouse, Deloitte, and Ernst & Young) focused on building relationships and creating value for businesses through effective consulting in the areas of finance, risk management, accounting, and audit. The ideal candidate will have examples where they have successfully demonstrated adaptability, initiating and maintaining relationships, and have inspired others. The individual will need to be a quick learner with a strong ability to quickly grasp underlying structures, adeptly learn, problem solve and implement solutions, in an interdependent organizational structure. Oil and gas experience is an asset, but not required.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Plan and delegate revenue duties to meet monthly closing deadlines; provide technical and supervisory guidance to Revenue Supervisors, Revenue Accountants, and other subordinates.
  • Coordinate data and flow of information with other Atlas departments related to Oil and Gas Revenues. Oversee departmental communication with Working, Royalty, and Investor interest owners, as well as other internal and external customers of the Revenue Accounting Department.
  • Manage monthly revenue distribution. Oversee timely and accurate distribution processing and revenue recognition.
  • Manage the overall staff, continuously seeking and implementing pportunities for development and experience, to expand the overall capabilities of the department.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, Land, and Legal departments as needed to resolve any discrepancies of payments, problems with receiving interest or interests to be disbursed.
  • Participate, plan, and introduce newly acquired producing wells into the revenue distribution process by working with various Atlas departments, outside purchasers and previous well owners.
  • Be a liaison and participate alongside other departments including IT, Operations, EHS, and/or Land to enhance or change revenue processing programs and reports.
  • Review and support analysis of price/volume discrepancies on a regular basis, and other monthly data and analysis as needed.
  • Review and support analysis of revenue for Management for month-end and quarter-end reporting.
  • Maintain documentation of existing processes and controls across cycles. Introduce, recommend and/or implement new or revised process/system improvements.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable government regulations with regard to royalty and severance tax payments. Resolve questions regarding interpretation of state or federal regulations.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a strong internal operational controls environment necessary to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or participate in project team efforts as they relate to the Revenue Accounting function.
  • Remain current with developments in the industry, and in the various areas of Company operations, as they pertain to the Revenue Accounting function.
  • Participate in regulatory, financial, and control audits. Interact and communicate with internal and external auditors.
  • Support Revenue/Corporate Controller as needed.

Education, Training, and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
A minimum of 3 years previous management experience is required.
CPA certification is preferred.
Oil and gas experience is an asset, but not required.
