Home of the prestigious Masters tournament and the famed Green Jacket, Augusta National is an exclusive golf and country club that boasts about 300 members, including many business leaders, political figures, and of course notable golfers. Membership is by invitation only; the club does not allow women to become members. Augusta National organizes and runs the famed Masters golf tournament, generating revenue through broadcast rights fees and sponsorships. The course was designed and built by golf champion Bobby Jones and Scotsman Alister Mackenzie in 1932 and hosted the first Masters event two years later.
Drawing attention from across the golfing world and from other sports fans, the Masters is a prized media property for broadcasters. Television network CBS has served as the primary TV outlet for the tournament since 1956. ESPN (owned by Walt Disney) offers jointly-produced coverage of the early rounds since replacing NBC Universal's USA Network in 2008. – less
