Aureon incorporates a team of scientists who are highly specialized in the areas of pathology, molecular pathology, machine vision, and machine learning in order to apply "Systems Pathology" to better understand cancer classification, progression and patient response to treatment.
Individual clinical outcomes are predicted by analyzing molecular biomarkers within the context of tumor morphometrics and clinical observations. Associations to clinical endpoints of interest are then performed using proprietary multivariate algorithms.
This approach has been validated in the form of Aureon's first commercially available prognostic test, Prostate Px®, which predicts PSA recurrence and clinical disease progression in patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy. A needle biopsy version of the test will be launched in Spring of 2008.
Aureon was co-founded by leading physician-scientists at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Yale Cancer Center, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine as well as investors from New Leaf Venture Partners and Atlas Venture. Other investors include BD Ventures and Pfizer.
