Position Summary:

To support specific Branch Operations in a defined region, as well as the organization in developing processes and systems that “Drive to Zero” injuries and incidents and builds a strong safety culture. Specifically, the role will supply direct field safety support to an assigned Branch(s) and support the HSE team in developing and implementing systems and processes to the organization as a whole.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Works with the operations leadership and HSE team in supporting and implementing positive and progressive changes in the safety culture
  • Leads incident investigations and develops innovation & hazard alerts
  • Works with the operation on ensuring corrective actions arising from incidents, audits and inspections are completed and implemented
  • Provides field level safety support on equipment and rig moves, including liaising with customers as required
  • Supports the operation with all safety related activities such as, new worker orientations, safety meetings, inspections, crew talks, pre-works, emergency response plans, risk assessments training logs and JSA’s
  • Supports the operation with implementation and application of the Short Service Employee program
  • Supports the operation and HSE team and with developing and delivering in house training and external training such as PEC training
  • Keeps up to date on all legislation and ensures the organization is compliant for OHSA, HazCom and DOT requirements
  • Supports the operation with implementing and conducting Behavior Based Observations
  • Supports the operation in ensuring the company is kept up to date and compliant with customer safety requirements
  • Supports and advises the operation on claims, incidents, and reporting requirements
  • Works with the operations leadership and HSE team on ensuring records and files are complete and accurate with internal and external requirements. (Such as incident reporting, safety statistics, DOT, Hours of Service)
  • Supports the organization on advising and implementing Alcohol and Drug testing when and where required
  • Works with the HSE manager on all Insurance and WCB claims
  • Works with the organization on developing Safe Work Procedures and Job Safety Analysis as required
  • Works with the operation on providing support and guidance with the procedures, policies, and practices within the HSE manual
  • Works with the HSE manager on developing and Implementing procedures, processes and systems
  • Conducts inspections and audits of facilities, worksites, equipment and systems
  • Works with the HSE Manager on conducting internal safety and compliance audits as required
  • Supports the organization with planning, conducting and leading annual emergency drills
  • Works with Management, Operations and HSE team to identify solutions and systems for safety improvement across the business

Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of health, safety, environment and compliance in an industrial environment including OHSA, DOT, Logs Books, hours of service
  • Knowledgeable in current trends, standards, and information affecting Health and Safety
  • Competent in leading incident investigations and developing effective practical recommendations
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Customers, Business Leads, Managers, Operations and other safety professionals internal

and external to Aveda, including cross functionality within the organization

  • Strong communicator and ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Demonstrates safety leadership on and off the job
  • Competent with the Microsoft Office Suite – Word / Excel / Power Point
  • Competent in developing training material, hazard alerts, SWP’s, JTA’s and other related HSE material
  • Self-starter and driven. Can work with minimal direction and oversight

Supervises Others: As required and directed by HSE manager and Branch manager Educational Requirement:

  • Preferred – Diploma / Degree – Safety Certificates / Licenses

Required:
Valid Driver’s License

Experience:

  • 5 – 10 years related industry experience
  • 3 – 5 years related health and safety experience
  • Safety program auditing
  • Relevant knowledge / experience with OHSA regulations & legislation DOT / Transportation regulations, and HazCom
