Pros: Good place to learn and get trained, stepping stone job.
Cons: No days off, mandatory overtime, low pay, and no understanding from upper staff/command staff
This department is only good for those who want to get into law enforcement or benefits for school. If being a police officer, is not your career goal then you will hate this job. The facility and staff or okay but don't really show respect to the officers. Command staff doesn't really like giving anyone vacation time or days off. Also be ready to take A LOT of reports, both criminal and medical DR's. You will also be forced to work a lot of OT and long hours.
Tip if hired or applying: don't get mixed up in the department drama, do your job, don't complain, volunteer to take reports, and know the facts and history of the school if your interviewing. Make eye contact, dress nice, and prepare like if your applying to a police department. The entire upper staff are all retired PD.
The shift Watch Commanders are the best, those guys know they're stuff. Every one else is okay.
Overall I'm thankful I worked at APU, I learned a lot.
