Harbert International Group provides highway and heavy construction services for commercial, industrial, and public projects throughout the world, primarily in the Southeast US. The design/build company's portfolio includes commercial and institutional buildings, research facilities, hotels and condominiums, water and wastewater treatment plants, dams and highways, and pipelines. B. L. Harbert International has offices in the US and Dubai. CEO Billy Harbert, Jr., leads the family-owned company, which traces its roots to the 1949 founding of Harbert Construction by brothers Bill and John Harbert.
The company's international business consists of building US embassies around the world. To date, Harbert has built or is building more than 20 embassies in locations including Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Pakistan, and Morocco. In the US, the company was selected to build a $50 million facility in Alabama for GE Aviation in 2011.
Privately-owned Harbert International posted revenue of $617 million in 2011.
Harbert International is building its portfolio and filling its coffers by constructing embassies around the globe. In 2013 the firm was awarded a $292-million-contract to provide design-and-build services for the new US embassy compound in Jakarta, Indonesia.
