Feast Or Famen
Welder/Ship fitter (Current Employee) –  Jacksonville, FLJanuary 29, 2016
Hot, Dirty, Best describes most days, But thats life in a shipyard.
Like most companies now they push this culture of respect and safety, But only when its convenient for them. I did learn many things here, co workers were all right. In the time I have been here there have been 4 big shifts in upper management, But things would get a little better then back to the BS, Direct supervisors range from great to terrible. When things are slow they can be 30 hour week slow, to two days off a month fast at the drop off a hat, and you never know till Thursday so not really a family friendly job.
Pros
Money, Benifits
Cons
I break in 10 hours, Politics, work life balance

Counter productive workplace
Buyer/Planner Sr. (Current Employee) –  Manassas, VAMarch 7, 2016
More people, ideas and obstacles are put in place here for you to do your daily job that any place I have worked before. Asked to be a forward thinker but you are always placed in a box. Told to think outside the box but when you do you get slapped on the wrist. The management plays favorites and there's a hierarchy to who is next in line for promotions so no need to keep the resume up to date other than to get out.
Pros
Every other Friday off to get out of here
Cons
Terrible health care benefits

BAE is a decent place to work but some of the current management styles make it hard to always be productive with out asking permission. Alos there is a lack of advancement from with in in certain areas.
Pros
good benefits, decent pay

lack of advancement, micro management of leadership

Temporary is what it means Temporary
Temporary Explosive Operator (Former Employee) –  Kingsport, TNDecember 2, 2015
BAE will tell you if you have good attendance, work hard, and be have initiative that you have a good chance of getting hired... BS! I worked as temporary explosives operator and did those 3 things and quit a decent job only to be used and lied too. They only use you and get rid of you so they will not have to pay benefits. Management is a joke. Tobacco free lol... people dip all the time. Don't fall for their lies, because this place is a waste of time. If you got a decent job stick with it especially if you have a family to support.
Pros
Plenty of time off working 12hr shifts
Cons
Company is very misleading and heartless management.

Great Work Culture, Lousy Pay
Software Engineer/ Systems Engineer (Former Employee) –  Binghamton, NYMarch 14, 2016
Overall pleasant experience working here. As a contractor there'll be plenty of opportunities for overtime, until you nearly collapse. The work culture is great here, but the pay is not. Prepare to be swindled out of good pay and a lack of career advancement as an engineer (when they finally want to hire you).

Good Place to Work
Sr. Director, Contracts and Procurement (Current Employee) –  Rockville, MDFebruary 6, 2016
The company is a typical Large Defense Contractor which has gone thru a lot of organizational changes in the last 3-4 years. In the 13 plus years, I have learned a tremendous amount in the various management and leadership positions held. Overall, I would recommend BAE Systems as a good employer
Pros
work flexibility
Cons
work life balance at Sr. Levels is difficult to achieve

Exceptional organization that is professional with excellent benefits & opportunities for career growth. Working for BAE Systems was a positive experience for me because they will give an individual an opportunity to grow professionally taking into account the employee work-life balance which promotes a culture of work hard and play even harder.
Pros

Responsible for Air Force Business Development and Operations Program Management
Program Director (Former Employee) –  Dayton, OHOctober 3, 2015
BAE Systems, provided extensive management and leadership training, which was very helpful in career development. Overall co-workers were very professional and were willing to go the extra mile to support business development and operational services delivery.
The number of meetings and life cycle management reporting required working long hours which negatively impacted the "job/work life balance". Interaction with co-workers was very positive, with high quality support being one of the key elements existing across the enterprise domain. Customer billing and over-head billing often conflicted due to a constant push to maintain a high percentage of billable hours. A state of constant conflict existed when billable staff had to support new business capture and proposal efforts, requiring the use of bid and proposal overhead funding. Senior Leadership would approve these efforts and then push back against the use of B&P funds.
Pros
Very positive work environment at the peer level.

Overall an great place tro work
program manager (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCJanuary 18, 2016
Overall the company is a great place to work, it depends on which sectors you work for and your immediate management line. Not a lot of opportunity for upward mobility. The people are what keeps employees at the company and what makes many of them return. Work life balance is pretty good, depending on your manager and the customer you support.

Hard to Work here
Electrical Engineer (Current Employee) –  Summerville, SCSeptember 17, 2016
It has been a very disappointed experience to work with BAE. There is a contract work system where the employee has work to do if there is a contract. If there is not contract, the employee is sent home using the PTO or without salary, until any contract is open and accepted and , then they will call you to work. I had to beg for work in other dependencies. But it is too much pressure trying to justify your production hour for hour in projects all the time.

Besides that, it looks there is not evaluation of the managers or superiors: they don't' analyze that situation and allow people without manners to be who is your boss.

I am looking for a job desperately.......I had been with this company for 5 months and I only worked 2. I am really afraid they can laid me off at any time. It is impossible working under that situation.
Pros
close home, schedule
Cons
it is not safe to keep this job; work depends on contracts: no contracts, no work to do.

Military Contractor
Production Support Specialist (Former Employee) –  York, PANovember 12, 2015
Challenging place to work and build career security. The business unit was assigned to, building/repairing military track vehicles. The most enjoyable part of my job was managing the materials which produced the military's new MWRAP wheeled vehicle. It was an honor to be part of something that saved so many lives overseas. Unfortunately being contracted by the US Military, my position was phased out when a new President was elected. Our contract was eliminated and moved to a company in the Mid-west due to political strategies.
Pros
Fulfilling, rewarding, higher compensation
Cons
Long daily commute, unstable sustainable employment

Great place to work if you like oppressive work atmospheres
Full-motion Video (FMV) / Imagery Analyst (Former Employee) –  McLean, VANovember 25, 2015
If you love being made aware of your status as a contractor that is beneath the government agency you are contracted to, then this company has a job for you! You can enjoy the daily reminder that you are easily replaceable and that you better walk on eggshells or else! Watch with a smile as all of your friends are fired on a whim because cheaper options are available. Do you love to worry if you will have a job come re-compete season? If so, prepare to lose your pants with joy! Do you love ZERO job growth? Then find out what it is like to fall in love all over again! Do you love the never ending train of micro management? BAE will not only have four different managers pulling your strings, but the government agency you will be working for will have many managers pull on you too! You can also get your fill of having managers that have no interest in going to bat for their employees because it would take effort. BAE… a fantastic place to work!
Pros
Make you feel good when you are hired
Cons
Let's you know you are a dime a dozen right after hiring

Great company overall
Financial Analyst II (Current Employee) –  Charlotte, NCJuly 5, 2016
The company is great to work for, but depending on your location, it could be better for the day to day. There is a lot of favoritism in the Resource Center.
While there are many opportunities for training in different areas, there is not a lot of room to move up. It's very rare to receive a promotion. Moving laterally is fully possible, however.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the work is relatively easy, as long as you know everything about your job. Training can be poor at times when there is a mass hire, as people tend to quit in groups.
Pros
9/80 schedule; free coffee and sodas; many events are held; health insurance
Cons
favoritism amoung management and those they have known for a while

Forward thinking and innovative defense contractor
Manager, Marketing and Events and Exhibitions (Current Employee) –  York, PAFebruary 9, 2016
BAE Systems is a global defense contractor and my role as the Platforms and Services Exhibit Manager allows me to engage with customers both domestically and internationally. I have travel to Asia, South American, Europe, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

I lead a team of two junior exhibit managers, oversee the protocol program, and manage and exhibition budget of nearly $1M.

The most enjoyable part of my job is the fact that every day is different and it is never mundane.
Pros
Ability to work with a variety of deparments and other divisions.
Cons
Promotions are only available if you are able to relocate.

A good company with opportunity for training and advancement.
Motion Imagery Analyst - IMINT (Former Employee) –  McLean, VAOctober 8, 2015
A good employer with great benefits and supportive management. Working for a contracting company means you will not often encounter corporate management. Job satisfaction comes from the contract that you are working on and the management for that team. Management is supportive of professional growth and there are many opportunities for training and advancement.
