Feast Or Famen
Welder/Ship fitter (Current Employee) –  Jacksonville, FLJanuary 29, 2016
Hot, Dirty, Best describes most days, But thats life in a shipyard.
Like most companies now they push this culture of respect and safety, But only when its convenient for them. I did learn many things here, co workers were all right. In the time I have been here there have been 4 big shifts in upper management, But things would get a little better then back to the BS, Direct supervisors range from great to terrible. When things are slow they can be 30 hour week slow, to two days off a month fast at the drop off a hat, and you never know till Thursday so not really a family friendly job.
Pros
Money, Benifits
Cons
I break in 10 hours, Politics, work life balance

Buyer/Planner Sr. (Current Employee) –  Manassas, VAMarch 7, 2016
More people, ideas and obstacles are put in place here for you to do your daily job that any place I have worked before. Asked to be a forward thinker but you are always placed in a box. Told to think outside the box but when you do you get slapped on the wrist. The management plays favorites and there's a hierarchy to who is next in line for promotions so no need to keep the resume up to date other than to get out.
Pros
Every other Friday off to get out of here
Cons
Terrible health care benefits

Temporary is what it means Temporary
Temporary Explosive Operator (Former Employee) –  Kingsport, TNDecember 2, 2015
BAE will tell you if you have good attendance, work hard, and be have initiative that you have a good chance of getting hired... BS! I worked as temporary explosives operator and did those 3 things and quit a decent job only to be used and lied too. They only use you and get rid of you so they will not have to pay benefits. Management is a joke. Tobacco free lol... people dip all the time. Don't fall for their lies, because this place is a waste of time. If you got a decent job stick with it especially if you have a family to support.
Pros
Plenty of time off working 12hr shifts
Cons
Company is very misleading and heartless management.

Buyer-Senior Buyer-Planner (Current Employee) –  New HampshireMarch 8, 2016
BAE is a decent place to work but some of the current management styles make it hard to always be productive with out asking permission. Alos there is a lack of advancement from with in in certain areas.
Pros
good benefits, decent pay
Cons
lack of advancement, micro management of leadership

Military Contractor
Production Support Specialist (Former Employee) –  York, PANovember 12, 2015
Challenging place to work and build career security. The business unit was assigned to, building/repairing military track vehicles. The most enjoyable part of my job was managing the materials which produced the military's new MWRAP wheeled vehicle. It was an honor to be part of something that saved so many lives overseas. Unfortunately being contracted by the US Military, my position was phased out when a new President was elected. Our contract was eliminated and moved to a company in the Mid-west due to political strategies.
Pros
Fulfilling, rewarding, higher compensation
Cons
Long daily commute, unstable sustainable employment

My overall experience working for BAE was awesome, My plans was to retire from there, but a big lay- off happened. I was in the apprenticeship program for four years and a learned a lot more in my field. The hardest part of the job was getting there through traffic.

Handled all training for 3 different weapons systems for the Marine Corps. This included writing manuals, lesson plans, student handout and making training cd's to give each unit that was trained. Hard part was a lot of travel but was offset by being able to train young Marines.

It was a good job.
Assembly Team Member (Former Employee) –  Anniston, ALDecember 1, 2015
I wasn't real fond of management as at times they seemed out of touch with the workers and more into their own games. The work areas were large buildings like aircraft hangers, cold in winter and very hot in the summer. The job itself was OK as long as they left you alone to do it. I have had a lot worse. The pay was good and benefits were ample, but nothing to write home about.
Pros
Steady work, OK pay.
Cons
Very hot work conditions in summer.

OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE (Current Employee) –  Fort Wayne, INJanuary 27, 2016
Lots of tension between labor and management. Union is weak and rarely stands up to management, to the point it's almost not worth having a union.
Pros
Benefits are pretty good and it's a fairly relaxed environment
Cons
Pay lags behind other similar facilities

Exceptional organization that is professional with excellent benefits & opportunities for career growth. Working for BAE Systems was a positive experience for me because they will give an individual an opportunity to grow professionally taking into account the employee work-life balance which promotes a culture of work hard and play even harder.

Motion Imagery Analyst - IMINT (Former Employee) –  McLean, VAOctober 8, 2015
A good employer with great benefits and supportive management. Working for a contracting company means you will not often encounter corporate management. Job satisfaction comes from the contract that you are working on and the management for that team. Management is supportive of professional growth and there are many opportunities for training and advancement.

Productivity for experienced worker
Government Contractor (Current Employee) –  Aiken, SCSeptember 1, 2015
A typical work day consist of a safety meeting first. Management was very involved in the safety of the employees. Scanning into your first assignment is a must because this how the company keeps track of efficiency and standard hours among workers. I learned to set up jobs and learn to further the reading of blueprints. I could never find an actually hard part about my job other than going back and forth to quality to get parts checked. it was time consuming and used a lot of time towards making standards hours.
Pros
Great work enviroment, friendly staff and coworkers
Cons
benefits, abilility for growth and lack of work at times

Very Experienced Workforce, Working outside of NH headquarters can limit carrer path
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee) –  Totowa, NJAugust 20, 2015
Great place to work with highly experienced senior engineering staff who are a pleasure to work with. Plenty of interesting projects and challenging engineering work to be done, but working outside of the main engineering headquarters in Nashua, NH can sometimes be a culture shock and can limit a young engineer's career path since the majority of the work is staffed with the engineers at HQ before being offered to the work force remote sites.
Pros
Very interesting and challenging work
Cons
Seems like benefits are reduced on a yearly basis
