Looking for a job with flexibility? Consider flexible packaging and specialty papermaker Packaging Dynamics. It operates through three units: BagcraftPapercon converts paper, film, and foil into food packaging, such as bags and wraps, butcher paper, pan liners, and tissue. International Converter produces adhesive and film extrusion lamination materials used to produce decorative cartons, bags, cans, and other packaging for consumer, medical, and industrial goods. Thilmany Papers makes specialty lightweight papers for wrapping up an array of pressure sensitive and industrial items (sandwich wraps, microwave popcorn bags, baggage tags, and tapes). Packaging Dynamics is a portfolio company of Kohlberg & Co.
BagcraftPapercon, Packaging Dynamics' main operating division, operates out of five facilities located in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Georgia, and California.
Making good on Kohlberg's growth strategy, Packaging Dynamics has added new businesses and trimmed operations. In mid-2011 Packaging Dynamics sold off International Converter's polyextrusion coating and laminating equipment, and other assets, to Prolamina, a flexible packaging company backed by Wellspring Capital.
Packaging Dynamics in late 2012 entered new geographic markets through the purchase of Groupe De Lux, a flexible packaging maker serving bakery, diary, and confectionary sectors through offices located in Chicago, New York, Montreal, and Toronto.
The company purchased the business operations of Marcal Chicago, an affiliate of recycled papermaker Marcal Manufacturing, in late 2010. Marcal Chicago made packaging for customers in the foodservice, restaurant, and supermarket industries. It joined the BagcraftPapercon business unit, boosting manufacturing capacity as well as its offerings, and positioned Packaging Dynamics to capture a larger share of the food packaging market. – less
