When it comes to baking, BakeMark USA has the secret ingredient. The company makes a slew of ingredients and bakery goods, such as cake and cookie mixes, pie and pastry fillings, various flours and yeast, as well as pre-baked goods and paper supplies. Its lineup is sold under brand names: Produits Marguerite (nut pastes, mousses, custards for French pastries); Trigal Dorado (mixes and fillings for Mexican pastries); Westco (baked good mixes and dough). Customers are mainly US retail, wholesale, and in-store bakeries, and bakery chains. BakeMark USA and sister subsidiary BakeMark Canada are part of Dutch ingredient maker CSM's Bakery Supplies North America business, which generates about half of all CSM sales.
In addition to contributing to CSM's financial performance, BakeMark USA is a necessary ingredient to the parent's presence in the US. In 2011 BakeMark USA joined with Pinnacle Foods to introduce Duncan Hines Professional, a line of 50-pound cake mix bags for the growing market of working chefs and bulk bakers. BakeMark USA serves as the exclusive distributor of the new product.
More significant, CMS made one of the largest acquisitions in its history in 2010 by purchasing bakery supplier Best Brands. The deal, which propels CMS to the top spot in the North American bakery ingredient market, included integrating Best Brands' distribution division with BakeMark USA. (Best Brands' other operations were combined with H.C. Brill, another CSM holding in the US.) – less
