compared to previous employers, this one is average
Accounts Payable Specialist (Former Employee), Charlotte, NC – May 7, 2013
Pros: flex work schedule
Cons: promotional opportunities
Work day was relaxed, although i am a "go getter", I would plan my work day before arrival. Upon getting to my desk, it was all hands on deck for me.

Terrible
Order Picker (Former Employee), Momence, Il – April 29, 2013
Pros: end of the day.
Cons: entire company.
They tell you your pay is based on how fast you move. What they don't tell you, is from the first week you're there they do everything they can to slow you down and prevent you from your next raise. Your hours are never guarunteed. Some days you leave by lunch, after lunch...some days you leave an hour early...and others you stay an extra hour. Not – more... too bad right? Wrong! They don't even tell you what you'll be working that day until an hour before your said to leave. You will work 9 hours, so the next shift can get sent home early. You will do this for 2 weeks, then youll be back to 8 hour days for a week, then your gettin sent home 4 hours early and the next day your back to 9. Management is clueless to almost everything.. Co-workers are favored and each get treated differently in a range from good and bad. Most of the time its more of a competition then actual work. But overall, at the end of the month your percentage is based on you, and everyone else arou d you...given there are people who'd rather stand around talking to anything with ears, its rather irritating to fi d you've not made your incentive that month because of it. This company has no idea how to run anything. The digital world is taking over, and needs to get to this place a little faster.

If you want to feel as if you are back in high school, with your every move tracked and questioned, working your a** off for them to just slow you down or come up with some bogus reason as to why you didn't make your percentage that month, and feeling unwelcome and unappreciated in your workplace...THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! – less

The paycheck was the only good thing about this job.
order picker (Former Employee), Momence, IL – April 8, 2013
Pros: they pay you to be there.
Cons: everything else
You don't work with someone breathing down your neck, but you are tracked by computer the entire time you are there, and constantly questioned about your down time (dead batteries, computer problems, etc.). The management is completely clueless as to what it takes to do the job, and what circumstances affect performance, nor do they care. They only – more... care how it looks on paper. The criticism is constant and the praise is virtually non existent. You have to be either be related to one of the bosses or buddies with them to have any chance for advancement. Performance and seniority mean nothing. Easily ranks as one of the worst run companies I have ever dealt with. Companies that are constantly hiring (like this one) are just proving how difficult they are to work for. – less

Stressful work environment
Processing Clerk (Current Employee), Momence, IL – February 24, 2013
Pros: oppurtunity to make more money
Cons: low base pay, not guaranteed fulltime hours.
You walk in automatically feeling over whelmed. Can't wait for the next break or time to clock out. Some days are better than others, but stressful. Some days its laid back an ok job, with some nice coworkers. Other days its caddy co workers, just wanting to compete.

I Loved working at Baker and Taylor
Kit Matcher (Former Employee), Momence, IL – January 10, 2013
Pros: great people and great hours
Cons: the percentage
I worked in C.L.S. dept. I was a good worker just not one of the best,I wish I would have focused more on getting the books out than trying to make them perfect maybe then I would not have been fired,Cheryl was good to me,My co-workers were there for me when my Mother passed away to help me make it alittle better on me,and when we lost a very best trainer – more... ,when she passed away C.L.S. dept went on hold for those of us that could not help but cry,the hardest part of the job was getting the books out fast enough, but the best part was trying to do so,I hope one day Baker and Taylor will will take me back,I truely Loved Working there, Great People. – less

decent working environmemt
Order Picker (Former Employee), Momence, IL – December 30, 2012
Pros: you can order merchandise 3 days before release.
The day would start out by grabing your equipment and you choosing on what zone you want to work in. I learned how to operate the computer which you are equipt with. I recived my forklift oparator licence which allowed me to operate two kinds of forklifts.managment was not bad, they would find out if your not doing your job. The thing I enjoyed the – more... most was that you work at your own pace and didnt have to rely on your co-workers to get the job done. – less

Good atmosphere, fun people to work with.
NP Research Analyst (Current Employee), Momence, IL – October 22, 2012
A typical day at work is after the morning "good mornings", and check my email for any updates to put into the system, I open my monthly reports and start working. Whether it is updating publication dates, list prices, discounts, or completing a purchase order, it is my responsiblity to get them done. It is not always about what I learn, as much as – more... it is what I have been able to teach others. Since I came from the warehouse into the office, I had a lot to offer. Not everybody knows how to track down and locate an error in the warehouse, so I use what I know to help them accomplish their goal. It is a great feeling knowing that I was able to help someone. That is what my department does -- we work together. My Supervisor knows that I will work with the different warehouse locations in fixing errors, making sure product is received and stowed in a timely manner, and make corrections as needed. By working respectively with the different departments, I was able to be part of correcting $197,000.00 in errors. That alone was probably the hardest, and yet most enjoyable, part of my job. It is not easy gaining the respect of the department Supervisors, and their employees. I am not correcting these errors to make somebody's job harder. It is my job to make sure the product is received, and the customer gets their product, in a timely manner. – less

Terrible merchandising company
Field Merchandising (Former Employee), Charlotte, NC – June 19, 2012
Cons: poor support structure, most managers have no merchandising experience, very high rep turnover.
Baker and Taylor started their merchandising division from scratch. Could not meet the demands of their clients. No training of new hires 99% of the time. Lost more business then they gained since I left.
