Excellent company to start your professional career
Sr. Consultant (Database Analyst) (Former Employee), New Jersy –
One of the firm in which you can learn so much in such a short amount of time and which make you understand that - Competition means everyone has to stay on their toes and offer the best.

Trading floor-style seating breeds interaction and increase of familiarity with co-workers as do long hours.
Analyst, Institutional Equity Cash Sales Support (Former Employee), New York, NY –
Strong emphasis on daily executions beginning with Asian markets and ending with Brazil and Canada in order to execute trades in a timely fashion. Simultaneously, coordination with settlements and cash operations teams to ensure all DTC settlements are complete and correct. Execution of syndicate trades as well as ADR's and soft-dollar trades require – more...  special attention to detail in order to execute properly for the client and your sales/trader.
The most difficult part of the job is having enough time in the day to ensure all executions and settlements are done properly, coordinating with the counter-party's trade support teams, and executing timely trades. – less

Pros: pay, hours
Cons: management
Morning balancing of previous days activities. Process incoming and outgoing stock loanreturns. Intra day balance of accounts.
Team of coworkers were most enjoyable part of the job. We worked well together and supported each other if we had an overload of work.

Barclays/Lehman merger expanded firm, but lacks structure
Director (Former Employee), New York NY –
Pros: constantly changing
Cons: lack of career development
Barclays Capital thrived as a mid-sized, debt-focused, global investment bank, with a flat management structure. The 2008 Lehman acquisition gave the the firm critical mass in investment banking, but also a large top heavy workforce in a shrinking market.

Better companies to work for out there
NYC/Jersey City (Former Employee), Consultant –
Pros: awesome co-workers, some of the best people in the business
Cons: company direction
I worked two tours of Barcap. Once as a Lehman Brothers leftover and once in Prime Services area. The company's in a spiral of downsizing and old technology. There are a few good Lehman people there but many have been forced out. Cutbacks are killing the company. My review of my immediate managers is mixed-most were supportive but again the downward – more...  spiral is negatively affecting the company. With the Upper Management changes in place, I really have to wonder how many members of the board are short on the company. I can safely say that everyone that I worked with was great. But again changes from above are tearing apart the best part of what was once Lehman Brothers. Co-workers do not have the backing of Management the way they used to. The direction of the company is not exemplified but its stated culture and values. – less
