Barr & Prevost, a Civil Engineering, Testing and Surveying firm is currently seeking an experienced accountant to provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports, completing day to day accounting functions for the company, complete month end General Ledger close activities, balance sheet reconciliations.

Accountant Job Duties:

  • Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
  • Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Secures financial information by completing data base backups.
  • Maintains financial security by creating/implementing/following internal controls.
  • Prepares payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
  • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Complies with FAR, AASHTO, federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Prepare, enter and review journal entries into the general ledger system
  • Perform timely account analysis ensuring accurate month end balances
  • Perform proper and timely follow up and resolution of all reconciling items
  • Assist in the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to management
  • Provide financial analysis support for assigned functions
  • Develop reporting as requested by business owners


Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Experience in an Architectural and Engineering Firm
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, FAR, AASHTO
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent mathematical/computational skills
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in QuickBooks

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of three years job related experience required.
  • Experience in an Architectural and Engineering Firm
