Everyone has to have at least one bad job.
Clerk (Former Employee), Springfield, OH – April 18, 2013
Pros: real world experience.
Cons: too many to list.
Poor company to work for, no real way to advance. Only positions in the store were *Clerk, Assistant Manager, Manager*. Franchise Owner and Regional Manager were good people but local store managers were unstable. Employees viewed as disposable, no real way to address issues, unstable work schedule, no benefits, exposure to hazardous chemicals and dangerous – more... objects when recycling batteries, no protective gear provided. – less

Obtained Lots of Indepth Knowledge
Administrative Assistant/Store Manager (Former Employee), Palatine, IL – March 18, 2013
Pros: learning new information great customers and employees
Cons: working 69-80 hour weeks
Worked long hours and did lots of learning and training as technologies advanced. Owner was hard on employees to "make" them better employees.

Enjoyed my employees and worked well with them. Owner was not flexible with certain aspects of store that he could of been but we all learned to adapt and do what was best for customers.

A good job for college/high school students that are into hands on technical work or the salesman type.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Harrisonburg, VA – March 8, 2013
Pros: can be routine type work days or not depending on the individual employees preference
Cons: small staff leaves little wiggle room with last minute scheduele changes or emergencies
A typical day at work depends on management and specific of the day which more than likely would be sales numbers, from a money making stand point a self motivated employee would keep sales as their primary focus at all times due to SPIFFS which reflected greatly in your paycheck.

Decent pay < responsibility
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Florida, USA – February 2, 2013
Pros: weekly pay, detailed training videos, customer committed
Cons: lots of responsibility, no benefits, no lunch breaks, strict management
A typical day of work is dealing with customers 1 on 1, trying to sell product & being prepared to answer any question correctly. You learn about batteries, bulbs, tech work, etc. Management is usually rich people who just bought a store & only care if the store makes money (not the employee). 2-4 Co-Workers max. Hardest part of the job is being responsible – more... for people's back bone part of their important items. Having to weld, pour Acid, having to know EVERY detail of EVERY item for customers that 9 out of 10 come in upset about their battery/bulb. Only enjoyable part is a weekly paycheck. Pay is great as a manager's position. O.K as a employee. – less

Sales Representative/ Consultant for Products (Former Employee), Houston Tx – January 14, 2013
Pros: store manager, learning new products, lunches
Cons: district manager
A typical day at batteries plus can be really busy. Most of the time we have to deal with walk in customers and addition we have to get leads from commercial customers. Management wasn't all that great but My manager at the store trying to keep everything in order. Co-workers were great, always work as a team. The Hardest part of the job dealing with – more... none experience District Manager. – less

Average
Sales Associate and Store Technician (Current Employee), Oak Lawn, IL – December 12, 2012
Pros: techincal skills
Cons: everything else
Overall experience is not so great. I have not seen my compensation change for over a year. I do way too much for the company for so little compensation. Advancement in this company is non-existent as the company will outsource for someone else instead of hiring for within. Hardest part of the job is dealing with rude customers and trying to satisfy – more... the upper management with tasks that should given to the outside salesmen which are getting paid to sit on the rears and instead of generating new leads. The co-workers are cool but share my frustration. My store manager is very lenient and reasonable and displays leadership like a leader is supposed to. Probably one of the best co-coworkers and employees in the company. Learned technical skills in building battery packs for multiple devices for retail and commercial sales. Once again doing the outside salesman's job. The most enjoyable part is working in the Tech Center even though we receive no such compensation for that. The downside is we miss out on commission because of the technical demands which makes me that much more frustrated. – less

Not a great place.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Racine, WI – December 11, 2012
Pros: spiffs, benefits
Cons: no set breaks, management, corporate
I work at a store with a great team, but a lousy manager. Batteries Plus isn't in the business of selling batteries and light bulbs, but rather, selling franchises.
I use my knowledge from this jobs daily, but the pay is terrible. The ONLY thing keeping me at this job right now is full benefits. The company is just sketchy all over.
You're busting your – more... back lifting very heavy batteries all day for very low pay. The only part I really like about this job are the spiffs you get for selling certain items. – less

Stable and fun working environment
Regional Manager (Former Employee), Fort Myers, FL – November 30, 2012
Batteries Plus was a great company to work for being that the technology industry is constantly evolving. As new devices were consistently being released, you always had the ability to learn something new. A great place to juggle both back office and hands-on aspects since select services were a pinnacle of the company's success.

Striving on service, – more... the staff was never afraid to downsell if it justfied the solution for the customer. They believe firmly in the "win the customer not the sale" attitude and look to establish trust as their list of solutions was abundant across many different categories. – less

Productive Environment
Associate (Current Employee), Ocoee, FL – October 6, 2012
Pros: friendly environment, productive, insurance, benefits
Cons: no social life
The store is 7 months old so business has not picked up yet. The typical work day currently consists of waiting on customers, the plus side to the new store is we get to talk to them without worry of holding others up and build a relationship with them, insuring they will come back. This will build some customer relationship management. The other items – more... through the day are stock replenishment, and technical work. – less

Great small place to work.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Eugene, Oregon – October 1, 2012
Pros: good bonuses for sales and friendly working enviroment. managers who are willing to listen to ideas.
Cons: not a great healthcare; breaks between working. small amount of workers so hard to get time off.
A great place to work but can get a bit monotonous at times. The main goal is to sell and educate customer's in batteries and light bulbs. A typical day I would maintain and make sure all batteries were fresh and ready for sale while helping customer's as they came into the shop. We offered advice as well as merchandise.

Great work experience
Sales Representative, FT (Former Employee), Bloomington, IL – September 23, 2012
Pros: the experience
Cons: commute
Working at Batteries Plus was my first sales position where I had actual roles besides selling clothes. I did company accounts, company deliveries, and spent time with the President of the company hearing about our new goals. The management at our location was great, they couldn't have been more helpful while I was learning. The best part of my day – more... was coming to work. – less

Great company, but bad franchice owner.
Manager (Former Employee), Homewood, IL – September 12, 2012
Pros: good co-workers
Cons: an owner with too much involvement and lack of day by day operation skills.
I start work at 7:30 am, I had 15 years of experince running a store within the company. Hired great employees and taught them how to be productive and efficient. The hardest part of the job was getting constant praise but no advancement for myself or my employees. The best part of the job was meeting new people and building a great reputation for success.

Wanted you to do everyone in the companies job with no compensation for doing so
Sales Associate (Former Employee), McKinney, TX – September 11, 2012
Pros: you get the days off you want
Cons: no health insurance
A typical day at work you do all the work while the assistant manager doesn't do anything but watch Hulu in the back

I learned a lot about batteries and chargers

I didn't like my assistance manager very much

The hardest part of the job was dealing with unrealistic demands

Long hours, little pay, hostile environment
Store Manager (Former Employee), Dayton, OH – August 23, 2012
Cons: poor healthcare, hostile environment
The people I supervised were good people with plenty of potential. However, they did not take training seriously. The individual I worked for became very unfriendly towards me when he found out that I was returning to school to complete my BA in Organizational Management. At that point, he stopped talking to me, which included providing support and – more... guidance. The biggest thing I learned from working at Batteries Plus is that you can't "do it alone", you need to have good people around you to be successful. – less
