A Crash Course in Wallstreet
Exchange Technician, Tampa - August 6, 2014
Bay Capital is a small investment advising firm that is home to three semi-retired, highly experienced Registered Investment Advisors. A typical day at Bay Capital included executing market trades and performing compliance review auditing. I would receive trade instructions twice daily (9AM and 3PM) in person and sometimes via email and telephone. Left with a calculator and a sheet of paper, it was my repsonsibility to figure out how to allocate client monies in the particular fashion that would generate the largest return on investment. This was the most difficult part of the job, but also the most enjoyable. Time flew by as I would calculate figures, balance percentages, and work through math problems. It was challenging, but also quite exciting and fun to have a window of time to find out how to create the most money possible. During the non-trading hours, I would review client files- auditing for compliance with the SEC and other legal requirements. At Bay Capital, I learned the importance of accuracy, extreme time management, and how to handle extreme pressure when over $100 million of assets were on the line.
