Wheelchair Van Operator/Driver, Foster City, CA - September 20, 2014
Typical work day consisted of ongoing communications with dispatch, checking/cleaning/sanitizing of the rig/unit you would be driving that day. Picking up patients both ambulatory and non-ambulatory; safely securing them into the unit. Wheelchair patients were loaded via lift where their wheelchair would be securely strapped in the rear of the unit. Transport was monitored by GPS as well as DriveCam which I welcomed, in the event of an incident. As a DMT (dialysis medical transporter) you were on the job as a solo driver/no need for a partner. The hardest part of the of the job was happening/discovering your patient had deceased. The most enjoyable was knowing I was there to help those in need, and of course being able to see the sunrise and set every day!
